A: When using oil based liquids, a solvent like mineral spirits should be used in a two-step process. Using a brush comb, repeatedly dip/rinse the brush in the mineral spirits, combing regularly to remove paint from the interior of the brush as well. After several rounds, rinse the brush in clean mineral spirits, using the brush comb again to make sure all paint has been removed. Repeat this process as necessary until the brush rinses clean. If you are then going to use the brush in a water based product, you should wash the bristles with a small amount of dishwashing soap and warm (not hot) water at the very end, to remove any residual solvent. I purchased this brush for painting baseboard. I used with water based latex paint (Behr Cabinet and Trim Paint). It held up well through many square feet. Washed out well with water, bristles remained in good condition and didn't come out or bend. Also used it with chalk paint . No streaking with chalk paint, little streaking on trim.
