How much of this product are we really supposed to use? Instructions say 1 oz. per inch of tree trunk circumference. We have a tree that is about 90 inches around the trunk. Pretty normal size tree. Per the instructions, I would require about 3 full containers of this concentrate, mixed into multiple gallons of water. This didn't pass my logic test. Especially where there is a warning to use no more than 0.4 lbs of some chemical per acre. Our lot is small; maybe 1/4 acre? And I don't know how many pounds or fractions of a pound of the named chemical are in a liquid ounce of this product. We called customer service and they told us to apply 3 bottles of the product to this one tree. The problem is, aphids infested all of our trees last year. What to do?
Asked by: WendyATL
@Jordan from BioAdvanced: thank you for verifying that I need to use multiple containers for one of my trees. The issue is, I have about 8 trees, and last year all were infected. How many bottles comprise the limit of 0.4 lbs/acre? My lot is probably only about 1/4 acre, so I can only use 0.1 lbs for my entire property.

How to apply this product

Asked by: Javed
I measure the circumference of the tree trunk using a string or flexible ruler. Then I measure out one ounce of concentrate for every inch of circumference and pour it into a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket. I add about four gallons of water and stir. Once well mixed, I pour it around the base of the tree all around the trunk.

How long after application until improvements are noticed

Have a young oak tree with borers. Arborist suggest this product.
Asked by: Shan
It takes several weeks to see any difference as the chemical takes time to soak in the the roots. I apply applications on my blue spruce about a month before the eggs hatch and I see new growth. I apply the concentrate three time a year to build up a base in the tree cells.

I use this product once a year and I imagine HD asks me to write a review once a year so this is likely a repeat. HD by the way is one of the only places around to carry this product. Likely because it is quite potent as well as rather pricey. A very knowledgeable horticulturalist at my local nursery pushed me to use this product for thrip many years ago. In fact this guy is gone and his nursery has not stocked the product in years (that's how I got to HD). It is used once a year; preferably in the late winter, I believe; the instructions should be followed as closely as possible. The trees and shrubs that I first used this on (and continue to use it on each year since) have never again had thrips. However I have found that other shrubs in our yards have developed thrip and thus my use of this product has actually increased over the years. I believe I bought (and used) 10 bottles this year. I regard it as a very valuable investment. 4 stars rather than 5 because sticking any horrible poison into the ground is not a great idea and I can recognize that some folks would not want to use it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product Used this on the trees and shrubs around my house. Two years ago some of them were being destroyed by beetles. I treated my trees according to directions with the liquid concentrate. After a few months they began to show marked signs of improvement. This year many of the trees around mine are being attacked by an unknown insect or disease. They have lost most if not all of their leaves, which turned brown and fell off. It looks like fall, minus the color. My trees which are outside the 12 month period are faring much better with minor loss of leaves. I attribute this to the Bayer product I used. I am going out tomorrow to purchase more and treat all of my trees again. This product also contains ingredients to feed the trees, and although a little expensive is well worth the expenditure. After treatment they will be good till next summer. Try it, you'll like it.

I have a diverse group of Crape Myrtles, River Birch trees, Azaleas, potted annuals (tiger and day lillies, gayfeathers), Oak trees, Chief Iris, Japanese maple tree, Roses, Flowering Bradford pear trees, and holly bushes. Everything is totally safe.

I have been using this product for years to protect my pine trees from pine tip moth. I learned the hard way about the damage pine tip moth can cause so now I don’t take any chances - every year in the last week in April I apply this product and it has protected my trees beautifully.

Water is your friend as it has to reach all the tiny roots and you can't do this with a bucket. Any time is good, but the earlier the better, before buds appear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! I've used Bayer 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and feed for about 5 years or more on my fruit trees, 2 Cherry and 1 Purple Plumb to control Japaneese Beetles. Prior to that I had tried the traps which only drew in more beetles from the neighbors yards and trees. What seemed like thousands of them! I then tried spraying the trees myself with another manufacturers product for a few years with almost no effect and also inadvertantly got a spray back into my face causing what I believe is the reason for my complete loss of smell evidently doing something to my ole factory (sp). Use of this Bayer Tree and Shrub product took all of the work and danger out of the process and completely rid us of the Beetles as far as the treated trees were concerned. And it is so easy to mix in a spray can and spread around the base of the tree. With the way the systemic process and effect works it somehow takes care of the beetles even it some have the courage to attempt a landing. Meantime, the trees are fourishing to boot. I love it!!!
