Product Overview

B'laster Surface Shield is the best defense for fighting rust. The lanolin-based formula provides complete corrosion protection for metal parts for up to 2 years. Plus, it’s non-toxic, safe and low-VOC. It goes on uniformly, providing even surface coverage and build, which means you’ll avoid the peaks and valleys that allow moisture to sneak in. And while it’s great for steel, it won’t harm plastic, rubber, glass, or wiring. Bonus features include lubricity (lubrication is a B'laster staple, so naturally we perfected the balance of ensuring steady operation of your project as we protect it from corrosion) and a mild cedar fragrance (so you can protect your project without stinking up your garage).
  • Extreme moisture-wicking action
  • Long-lasting lubrication
  • Safe, lanolin-based formula
  • Use on all metal surfaces, equipment and moving parts

good protector
this product worked well for me. i used it on a hitch of my truck that was always rusting. after i cleaned the surface, i sprayed it with this blaster product. i gave it a good dousing. made sure to get it from every angle. you can use the thin tube that is provided to get a pinpoint stream, and that helped with some nooks and crannies. mopped up any residual drippings, and let it air dry. the rust seems to have gone. so far so good. the only issue i had was that the cap was cracked when it was delivered. kind of annoying, but it didn't prevent the product from working.

My weekend project was just some maintenance and heavy duty cleaning of my 3.8gpm hydrologic paint sprayer machine. Without regular cleaning and lubing all the rubber washers, packing .and metal parts of a paint sprayer runtime and performance will suffer and shorten the life of the pump. After removing the ball valves I sprayed some Blaster Surface Shield all over and gave it a nice coating. I was happy the Blaster Surface Shield did what It says on the can that it will do I noticed an immediate improvement on performance and a much quieter running machine. I'm hoping Blaster will stand the test of time.

Sprays on fairly thickly. It does NOT run like a spray on oil, even on a vertical surface, and you will likely want to use a small rag to spread it around a tool or another object needing to be coated. The coating it leaves is somewhat waxy/slippery. It initially has a mild solvent smell but that disappears rather quickly (at least in comparison to spray on lubricants). The label on the can says that it can last up to two years. It comes with a spray tube to get into small spaces or for precise application. Note, this must be shaken before use.

Blaster Surface Shield is another solid product from the B'LASTER Corporation. Our neighbor was getting rid of a wheeled deck cooler because the shelf hinge welds had rusted out. I saved it from the trash heap, and used the Surface Shield spray on the hinge points on both the cooler, and the shelf. You can see the before and after sprays in the pictures. It adheared to and reacted with the rust, turning the surface blackish. Now I can rivet the weld points, and not worry about it rusting again right away. Going to try it on the power washer motor housing rust spots, and the snow blower next. I imagine it will add years to the life of the snowblower. My only complaint is that I would love for it to be in one of the new style cans they have with the adjustable spray and built in straw.

Blaster products have a well deserved solid reputation for doing what the product says it will do. This product is intended to product surfaces from rust, the spray pattern is well formed and easy to apply to exactly where intended. It adhered to my test samples quite nicely and survived the hose test and a rain storm. It did leave a noticeable slime after the rain but nothing that can't be wiped off.. my two takeaways are 1 don't use in areas you can see ie: fenders, bumpers. Id use it on the undercarriage. 2 unfortunately I have no long term testing so I can't tell if it will work over time and how many if any times it needs to be recoated

First time using this product and I can safely say I really like it. I have been using it on rusty metal items to help prevent further rust accumulation as well as to help with movement when necessary. I am also using it preventatively with metal items that have not yet begun to show any signs of rust. It's super easy to use and it comes with a straw for accurate spray (or just less mess).

BLASTER 12 OZ. SURFACE SHIELD Country of origin - label says "manufactured by the B'laster corporation in Cleveland, Ohio. 44125" I ordered this product as an alternative to another well known penetrating, Water Displacing aerosol petroleum product, fascinated by the promo that includes "extreme moisture-wicking action" and "safe, Lanolin-based formula" (not regular petroleum - cool!) My experience is limited to the pics - a rust seized natural gas flex pipe to a well-loved BBQ. I shook the can as directed. The product foamed up and did not drip - as advertised. I waited, then turned the wrench. A different part of the line yielded first. Oops. Maybe try again on something less challenging? Perhaps next weekends projects will have something I can soak overnight. Sorry

The high humidity in south Louisiana causes everything to rust; therefore, I am always searching for a good rust protectant for tools and other metal items. I thought that the best way to test the Blaster Surface Shield was to compare it to the two products that I currently use, WD-40 and Johnson Paste Wax. I use Johnson Paste Wax on the cast iron tops on my table saw, jointer, band saw and planer, but it doesn’t always prevent rust from forming if I don’t apply it often and use the tool frequently. I sanded the rust from a piece of sheet metal that I had hanging around and applied the three products (Blaster Surface Shield, WD-40 and Johnson Paste Wax). I then put the sheet metal outside for two weeks. Rust began forming on the area protected with Johnson Paste Wax within a couple of days. It took about 10 days for rust to begin forming where the WD-40 was applied. But even after two weeks the area where the Blaster Surface Shield had been applied was still shiny. I am sold on Blaster Surface Shield. I can’t believe that Blaster Surface Shield protected metal left outside for two weeks, I definitely recommend this product!

I was looking for a product to spray on my plow hydraulic cylinders during the off season to prevent rust buildup and in turn prevent seal failure next weekend. I came across this blaster product that claimed to provide long lasting coating and rust prevention. The can comes with a straw that allows reaching into tough areas. The spray button is one of the larger ones that allows easier direction and pressing. I applied the blaster surface shield to my plow pistons and it sprayed smooth and left a thick coating that covered well. This was much easier then lathering wheel bearing grease and much less messy.

. I’ve used several other Blaster lubricant products, so had some expectations about the Surface Shield Rust Protectant before I ever took off the cap. I was wrong. This is a much different product that has some unique applications, none of which matched my preconceptions. That’s on me. I thought I’d get something light I could spray and wipe on the exterior of my BBQ grill to keep the rust monster at bay, but this IS NOT that product. So, rather than dwell on my mistaken ideas, let’s talk about what this is, why it’s different, where to use it, and why it belongs in your garage or shop. The first clue that this is something unique is in the directions, beginning with “HEY, SHAKE THE CAN!” Upon doing so, you discover the can has an agitator ball, much like a can of spray paint. The can is also an ounce or two heavier than other, similarly sized, Blaster products. After a few seconds of shaking, pressing the spray nozzle dispenses a fairly thick oily coating that doesn’t run when applied to vertical surfaces. Clearly, not appropriate for the stainless work table of my BBQ, though it can be fairly easily wiped off with a paper towel, and is a better choice for longer term storage of any metal product. I’ve applied it to garden tools and to the underside of my lawnmower, with equally good results. The can indicates that it can be applied to wet or dry surfaces, and like its lighter-weight brethren, will displace existing moisture. The can also comes with a spray straw for tightly focused applications.

Really cool stuff. It doesn't exactly smell like cedar like the can says, but it smells better than your average rust prohibitive. I'm impressed by how well it adheres to the surface it is being applied to. I tested on a wrench that doesn't get much use and found that you can spray it on and it doesn't drip at all. It bubbles after first being applied and then it's just on there. Will be using when putting tools away for the winter.

Working on automobiles all my life I would see a lot of rusted parts that could not be repaired because of corrosion. If was able to get under a vehicle I would spray what ever was available on fasteners, clamps, cables or whatever to prevent rust. Now there is a product that is just for that. Surface Shield by Blaster has a lanolin-based formula, moisture-wicking action, with long-lasting lubrication, and can be used on all metal surfaces. So I used it on some gate hardware that I occasionally have to adjust.

An excellent product! I really like this product because of the fact that it has proven very strong for removing some rust on a garden sheer as you can see in the photos. This rust has been on these blades for about two years laying in the drawer. The main thing is to be sure that you shake the can quite a bit for at least 3 to 4 minutes. And this project it took about five minutes and a little bit of 400 grit sandpaper and everything came off just like butter. This is a must have product for any garage or toolbox with high recommendations. And yes… It’s made in the USA.

I have used other Blaster products in the past, but wasn't sure if this was another type of lube or whet. It is called a surface shield, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I have plenty of items that can use some shielding and rust prevention, so I thought I would see what this stuff is. It turns out it spays a semi-thick coating that feels much like a lubricant of sorts, but very thick. I did a couple test points on my trucks ball hitch lock that had minor rust and also on the electrical trailer connection plate/mount on the back of my truck. It sprays on very easily and very think. I checked it an hour later and it was still very wet to the touch. Not sure how it may cure over a day or longer, but I can see how this would work as a surface shield against rust. I will have to see how it does after driving at speed and putting up with the elements, but I will let it cure for a couple days before testing further.

This is sprayable petrolatum (ie "Vasoline") mixed with lamb's wool wax ("Lanolin") and some petroleum solvents. It is billed as an under lawn mower or under car surface protectant. To test it I sprayed it on the inside of a new 6 5/8" hole saw that I used to drill out twenty five 6" to 8" deep holes in my thick Bermuda Grass so I could install concrete "donut" sprinkler protectors. I had my portable drill (with a 5 amp hour battery) smoking on the first hole. I got out my two-handed 7.5 amp "wrist breaker" corded hammer drill and there was no more trouble with torque. After six hours of drilling and digging and drilling the paint had worn off the outside of the hole saw where I had NOT sprayed. The outside was also all scratched up and retained gritty dirt after I sprayed it off with a hose. When I hosed off the inside where I had sprayed Surface Shield the dirt slipped right off like an egg sliding off a new Teflon pan. I couldn't believe it. The paint wasn't scratched and I could feel no dirt when I ran my finger across the smooth inside surface.

This Blaster Surface Shield is neat stuff. I decided to use it on the towing hitch on my SUV because no matter how many times I painted it the ugly rust keeps coming back. This time I chipped off all the loose paint, wire brushed off the loose rust dust, then treated the hitch with Blaster Surface Shield. I really like how the spray sticks and does not drip or splatter all around. One can of this spray will go a long way, I did not need much for my hitch. The spray seemed to bubble at first, but then became clear. It does not dry completely, it gives the metal a shiny wet look. After one drive through car wash the spray seems unchanged, so I am confident it with stay on protecting through bad weather conditions. The spray also acts as a lubricant and made sliding my bike carrier into the hitch easier. Overall a great buy to slow down rust on outdoor and indoor items without making a dripping mess. Does not smell bad either.

I picked the Blaster 12 oz. Surface Shield spray for a few reasons one being to protect painted steel in fight contestant the elements, But this product doesn't dry on sealed surfaces. The other being exposed steel tools and parts that can not be painted. I like that it has a pleasant cedar scent and not some chemical sell. I like that it come with a spray straw to target inside female threaded part for easier removal or straight out of the nozzle for wider coverage.

The B’laster 12 oz. Surface Shield is not only the spot-on item for the job but it does what it says it does. Consistently great stuff, this long-lasting rust protection is awesome! The spray goes where you want/need it and the stuff sticks. There is no dripping (IMPORTANT!) and the hold is great for moving parts. I use mine for farm equipment, yard gear and cleaning machines as well as pressure washers, air compressors and nail guns. Surface shield will help you if you have locked parts like wheel lugs too. The durability is incredible and you can fully expect it to last long after you have done your work. I especially like using this for the blades on my mower since it balances water displacement as well as lubrication so the blades run smoothly without grind. Blaster is great stuff and I can not say enough about the protection of all the parts I use it on. 5*’s!!! Highly commend the B’laster Corporation for a fine product!

The Blaster surface shield is definitely something that everyone should have in their shop. I have two anvils and I am constantly knocking off the surface rust with wire wool and spraying it with the standard available lubricant sprays. The problem has been that the sprays dry immediately supposedly leaving a residue to protect the surface from rust. I live in a very humid area and within two weeks, surface rust is forming again, especially if I use the anvil. The Blaster spray is completely different. When you spray the surface, it is coated with a clear but visible coating that doesn't just evaporate away. It remains on the surface, preventing rust from forming, evening after I use the anvil. This is a spray that I will always now have in my shop.

Only gets a good rating because of design problems. Red straw does not stay in spray nozzle because the hole is not recessed far enough in to hold it, it blows out. Had 2 cans out of 6 clog prematurely rendering them useless, no matter how much i shook the can while using. Applies nicely and evenly, and has low odor. Be sure to use a mask and safety googles or shield, as propellant is not safe for lungs.
