I bought the trimmer because it was a great price for the size and power of the trimmer. It took about a week to ship. I have had the trimmer for about a month The trimmer starts great, runs great. my concern is the trimmer head, wire, and the shoulder strap. I will have to buy a new better style trimmer head. also the support strap needs upgraded. it does more damage than it does help. and with this size trimmer the shoulder strap is necessary.

I would highly recommend not purchasing this brush cutter/trimmer. I bought it because of the attractive price, positive reviews, and the fact that it was both a trimmer and a brush cutter. That said, my experience with it has been highly disappointing. To begin with, the instruction manual is poorly written and illustrated. This isn't too bad if you're putting it together as a trimmer, but good luck figuring out the sequence of parts if you're assembling it as a brush cutter. Why, because the illustrations are so teeny tiny it's hard to know what part is what. You might want to start out by looking at the parts list in the back of the manual as it has an illustration of the trimmer/brush cutter fully assembled with names of all the parts. Fortunately, I was able to find a YouTube video that shows how the brush cutter parts go together. The engine was somewhat hard to start. I actually got it started by not following the instructions and putting the choke lever halfway between "start" and "run". BTW, they refer to the "choke lever" as the "chock lever". Like I said, the instruction manual is poorly written. Because of the size of the engine, the trimmer is quite heavy, which is why is has a strap and what is known as a bicycle handlebar. However, with the handlebar controls in a position where I could easily reach them, the cutting blade was about two feet above the ground. Unfortunately, the length of the shaft is not adjustable. I'm five eleven, this should not have been a problem. Consequently, I had to lean forward to get it closer to the ground, which put a lot of strain on my back, and was quite fatiguing. Additionally, because of its weight, about seventeen pounds, I found it to be quite unwieldy to use. If you do use it as a brush cutter, you'll need to buy a better blade than the one that comes with it. I couldn't believe how poorly it cut, and I'm just cutting down tall weeds with it. Other than its powerful engine, the best thing I can say about this trimmer/brush cutter is that it looks real nice in my garden shed.

As a String Trimmer it worked Great. Its Very Powerful! As soon as I put the Brush Cutter Blade on and started to cut some Brush, the Shaft Lock broke and the shaft started to spin. It broke the lock now its useless. Im going to return it and maybe get a Brand name Brush cutter instead of a poorly made China tool.

      Built to Work
This Blue Max Trimmer/Bush Cutter combo is a complete package. Everything you need to assemble, use, and almost service this trimmer is included except the gas and oil. You get the trimmer head with string, a support strap, a brush cutter blade, a small jug to mix the gas and oil, and a number of tools. Assembly took me about 10 minutes. I referenced the picture on the box more than the instructions which were a little lacking. The trimmer is heavier than most so the strap is a must in my opinion. The one provided is sufficient but a more padded strap would be nice. Start up was quick and easy. This trimmer is loud but at 42.6 cc that's to be expected. It took me a moment to get use to the handles but once I did it actually feels better than a regular trimmer. I have a greenbelt behind my home that the HOA keeps cut but in the summer it tends to get a little tall at times. It's too much for my regular trimmer but I gave this Blue Max trimmer a try. Most of the grass was dead but it tore through it with ease. While I can't speak about longevity, I looked at similar trimmer/brush cutters and this one appears to be an excellent value.

Plenty Powerful, Comfortable Use with Extended Handle and Shoulder Strap, Easy Blade Change.
The big blue weed and brush wacking tool! This extreme duty weed wacker/ brush cutter combo continues the extensive line of quality outdoor gas powered tools from Blue Max. Assembly goes fairly smoothly and the manual, while occasionally lacking in clear wording to describe the step, is done well enough that anyone can follow the illustrations and get it put together in under 30 minutes. Every tool you'll need to assemble and maintain the trimmer combo is included. All attachment points of the tool and the shaft, handles are made of metal and feel robust. It is a good amount heavier than a regular sized trimmer, but the included shoulder strap and ergo handle means you'll barely feel it. Starting the large 42.6cc two stroke engine is quite simple. First you'll need to mix quality two stroke oil (not included) and regular gasoline in a 40:1 ratio before filling the extra large fuel tank. Blue Max includes a nice mixing container for getting the fuel/oil mix perfect. This is a great addition and I'm glad they put it in the box. It will come in very handy for any tool that uses premix fuel. Set your choke, prime the engine, turn the ignition switch on and give the starter cord a strong quick pull. It pops off pretty easy and settles into a smooth idle once it warms up. It's around the same volume as any other engine of it's size. It is louder than the smaller 23cc models out there, and you'd expect that being nearly twice the displacement size. The exhaust exists the back of the trimmer, away from you, so it doesn't scream in your ear. Once started and warmed up, lift the trimmer, put the shoulder strap on and get ready for some trimming. The engine is plenty powerful and never stalled or stopped running even when cutting old lilac plants that had come up away from the main bush. The stems were about a half inch thick. Slowly move the blade into the wood and it cuts right through. String trimming is straight forward, it works as well as any string trimmer and the head has the same bump feed method of advancing string as many others do. Both the brush cutting blade and trimmer string are easily and quickly replaceable and can be found at Home Depot. Run time is phenomenal. With the huge fuel tank it just keeps going. You'll get tired and want to take a break before you run out of fuel. Comfort is tops with the included shoulder strap and ergo throttle handle. It gives you complete control of the trimmer no matter what angle or surface you are using it on. The handle and strap are infinitely adjustable with the included tools and will fit any size user, even us big guys. Your arms and hands get a nice break from the normal type trimmers that have no strap and ergo handle. I feel the control is very precise with this handle design. You can really get in close and trim cleanly. The tool shaft separates from the powerhead without issue for small space storage. The manual and the website say that this trimmer is attachment capable, and since the power head detaches it is, but I couldn't find any attachments that fit from my other tools. I own every attachment available for other brand trimmers, none fit, they have a different attachment method. I couldn't find any Blue Max brand attachments on the market. This has so far been a quality power tool. I love the comfort of the handle/throttle design and the shoulder strap. It takes the entire weight of the trimmer off your hands. All tool functions are at your finger tip on the throttle stem. Tool head changes are fast and easy, you can go from string trimmer to brush trimmer in about two minutes. I recommend this to anyone that has a lot of yard trimming to do. This is great on larger yards with long fence lines or numerous buildings and it can handle most types of brush you want to hack down. It would great for clearing paths filled with thick weeds. PROS: Heavy duty feel to the tool. Mostly metal construction. Huge engine, never lacks for power. Large fuel tank, feels like it runs forever. Switchable from trimmer to brush cutter in a couple minutes. Shoulder strap and ergo handle give comfort and complete control. All tools needed are included. Tool head removes for compact storage. CONS: Attachment capable, but can't find any that fit currently. Heavier than average trimmer, make sure to use the strap. Instructions could be clarified in spots.
