Absolutely, once the melon reaches the size of a baseball, you should you a melon hammock or net attached to the trellis to support the weight.

We do not suggest that you grow watermelons on a trellis. It can be done but very labor intensive. You will need a sturdy trellis as well as create a hammock for every fruit to be supported.
