Can I use it for the shower if it's just for one person

Asked by: Tito
Many customers find this to be satisfactory for a shower. Your expectations for shower time duration will need to be measured in relation to experiences with full size tanks. You can extend your shower duration by adjusting your cold/hot mix and setting the unit to its maximum heating setting. Due to the mix of hot/cold in shower use, you do get much more than 4 gal of water for your shower and the unit does heat while hot water is being depleted - which will provide more than only the initial 4 gal of hot water. How much more is dependent on your heating set point, flow rate, and hot/cold mix ratio.

I will be using this in my camper/travel trailer. I do have a sink and can put it in the cabinet under the sink. My primary interest is short showers. The shower head is attached to a tube which is attached to a tube coming from the sink, like the sprayer on a kitchen sink. Actually, that is what the shower currently is. Anyway, would this work to get hot water to the sink and shower? Thank you
Asked by: Mishy
It will, as long as there is a hot water pipe to plumb it to. If you only have one pipe then you will need someway of mixing your hot and cold water.

Currently have a 30 gallon, hard-wired tank that only feeds the kitchen sink and dishwasher. Thinking of the Bosch Mini-tank as a replacement. Would it be sufficient for this use? Also, how much noise does the unit produce?
Asked by: Diane
I bought my 4 gallon for exactly this purpose. It is piped to the kitchen sink, where it is used mostly to hose down dirty dishes via a foot operated valve (Chicago - would not be without this accessory!) with a side branch to a brand new Bosch dishwasher. We have never had a problem - 'works like a charm and as the tank is located in my workshop below the kitchen, I couldn't hear anything even if it did make a noise - which it doesn't.

I replaced a traditional style, round, 2.5 gallon, steel water heater, which was leaking because of tank rust, with this 4 gallon model. Obviously, the larger tank provides more hot water than the old heater, but the difference is greater than I anticipated. Two months since installation, my wife is quite pleased with this one. She hand washes the dishes, and has hot water to spare, after each wash. This tank is the primary source of hot water for the kitchen sink, as the previous homeowner completely removed the hot water supply line to the main water heater. Even so, the Bosch Mini-Tank is able to provide plenty of hot water for our family of five's needs, both for cleaning dishes and for hand washing. This unit is reasonably easy to install; even for those with little to no plumbing experience. Consult your local Home Depot "master plumber" for advice and for the proper installation materials.

I believe that Bosch bought out the rights to this unit from Armiston - but they are the same unit. The first one we had installed under the kitchen sink and the connection hose broke flooding the entire first floor of the house. So we replaced and put it out side and ran the hoses through the wall to outside; When the unit goes bad, it has always been due to leaking and not worth repairing. Being out side, it is not a problem with water damage. Again, depending on how long it takes to get hot water to your kitchen sink, the unit is plenty worth the effort.

The usual use for this mini-tank water heater is to use at a sink or bathroom located far from the house water heater so there will be hot water right at the tap. I have put it to a different use. I've installed a high efficiency heat pump water heater to supply heat to our house in-floor hydronic heating system. The heat pump system is heat pump only, not hybrid with electric resistance heating back-up. Since the heat pump system maximum capacity is very close to the calculated design day heat loss from the house I wanted to add a little bit of electric resistance heating into the tempered water that flows to the floors. The tempering valve is set to about 100 to 105 degrees fahrenheit and the heat pump system is able to produce water that maintains that temp most of the time. I added the mini-tank heat in the line that distributes water to the floors add I'll set the temp at about 80 degrees just to be sure there is a way to add some heat if the heat pump isn't quite producing enough heat. I'm still setting it up and we haven't had very low outside temps yet so I'll have to wait to see how well it performs. I really appreciate that this water heater can be set as low as 65 degrees, so 80 degrees will fall right into it's operational range. The attached photo shows the tank installed during leakage checking and before the pipe insulation and temp setting happened.

We now have hot water almost as soon as the tap is opened. If you have flexible sink connections from shut off valves, it's a fairly easy install for the experienced DIY. It takes up a lot of room under the sink so measure twice before you buy. Keep in mind the pressure relief valve requires a place to discharge!

Purchased an older home and was taking forever to get hot water. I also tee'd it off to the dishwasher so that it always has steaming hot water to begin the cycle. I fed it from the hot side so it has hot water if it uses the 4 gal.
