Can these be used to drill into a concrete slab ceiling? If so, how fast can you go with a 3/8" bit?
Asked by: ngmhd
These can be used for a concrete slab ceiling, especially if it's a new concrete pour. Concrete keeps getting harder as time goes on, so if it's an old ceiling, I think I'd use a hammer drill (rent from Home Depot if this is your only concrete drilling project, though I have found I use my light duty hammer drill very frequently just because I have it). This is the bit you'd want to use with a hammer drill: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Bosch-3-8-in-x-8-in-x-10-in-BlueGranite-Turbo-Carbide-Hammer-Drill-Bit-for-Concrete-Stone-and-Masonry-Drilling-HCBG13T/203621758

Isn' t that odd this 14 piece set is showing as an accessory with a DeWalt Hammer Drill, but if ones read the instructions it is recommended to not these bits with a hammer drill; so, show these as accessories when ordering the DeWalt.

This meant de-constructing my existing garage, shelves, cabinets etc.Once everything was removed I didn't realize how many holes I had drilled over the years. Now I have to re-install it all again plus a few more. This meant I would need various sized masonry bits. This 14 total bit set with 7 different sizes fit the bill for what I needed. Although not completely done, so far they have held up well. This is good value for what you get.

Nice drill bit set, plenty of sizes to choose from for whatever project you're doing. The drill bit centers quickly and begins creating a hole within seconds. It's a little slow going, depending on your drill, but it will get the job done. I've tried drilling in concrete with regular bits before and they all broke. So I decided to try these and I'm happy to see that they work very well. I'm currently using them to drill into cinder block to mount a water filter.

We live in a ranch style home built in the 50's with all brick exterior walls. So anytime you need to mount something either on one of those wall either inside or outside of the house it requires putting a hole into the brick. The drill bits that get included with a package of anchor's are typically not that great. Wanting to get something slightly better and with more size options I turned to these. So far they're great. They drill pretty quick, clean out well and have stayed sharp after several uses. One thing I did not notice after the first few uses is that these are not intended for a hammer drill. Whoops, I drilled several holes with the hammer function on my cordless drill and it worked just great. Didn't seem to damage anything but I'll refrain from doing so in the future. I'll take that as a good sign of quality as I obviously abused them.

These are a great set of masonry drill bits, a must have for every homeowner. High quality, and a good variety of sizes for almost any home project. I can't tell you how many times I have needed to put a wall molly in masonry and didn't have the correct bits. These will definitely solve all those problems. And with the wide range of sizes, you should be covered in 99% of the cases.

They tend to become dull more quickly when allowed to get too hot. These bits seem to handle the heat and keep their sharpness. Not having a hammer drill these suit my purposes. I've been using them to drill through planters for drainage and feeding drip irrigation into the planter. It has worked out very well.

Went through 3 bits (the number of 1/4" provided) and over an hour trying to get four 1-inch deep holes to hang some signs. Gave up halfway through the 4th hole. Even changed to a completely charged drill battery halfway through. I've drilled into brick before, it shouldn't be this hard. I'm going to buy something else.
