What is the difference between FIP and compression fitting?
BySep 27, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

On a faucet supply line the 1/2" FIP is an iron pipe thread that is usually on a faucet, the 3/8" OD compression is a special thread used on compression fittings. This connector uses a rubber washer instead of the compression nut and compression ring. If you need a better explanation please contact technical support at 877-272-7755. Thanks

This connector is designed to be used on a 3/8" OD compression fitting like on a standard water stop and a 1/2" male iron pipe connection like on a sink or kitchen faucet. Why adjustable wrench rather than a standard wrench of correct size?
              ByMay 20, 2026
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

You can use a 15/16" open end wrench to tighten the 1/2" FIP nut and a 5/8" open end wrench to tighten the 3/8" OD compression nut but due to the low torque required and tighter spaces that these connectors can be located in an adjustable wrench is usually easier to work with. It is a personal preference, and you can tighten the nuts any way you feel more comfortable. Thanks

                Answer This Question

Yes, this is a faucet connector that will work on most kitchen and bathroom faucets. You will need to verify your water stop has a 3/8" OD compression outlet, which is the most common outlet. If you need more help selecting a connector you can contact technical support at 877-272-7755 Thanks

I added an under sink water filter and I needed a little longer supply line, this 30" was the ideal solution. Hose appears durable, rubber hose inside and braided outside. 3/8" to the water supply and 1/2" to the filter. No leaks.

Just what we needed to update old water lines and get our sink reinstalled.

Very happy with this line. I have a few in my home and used them for installing a bidet. It is flexible enough to wrap and twist a bit as I needed. The price was excellent and the quality is really good. The connections needed no plumbers tape and have no leaks at all. Recommended.

Pretty basic and all you need. Easy to install and flex for the space it was needed. Just pay attention to the size and length needed because they get jumbled together in the store.

When I purchased the faucet set, the only extra I had to purchase was the water lines. The box stated which size I needed and The Home Depot has the water line display to match exactly what the box stated I needed. I used the 12 inch and although the space behind the pedestal sink was tight, these went on easily. I installed the 1/2 inch end prior to faucet installation. The 3/8 inch shut off end fit perfectly. Based on ease of Instlation, product quality, product labeling, and price, I would highly recommend.

                    Needs Deeper Sockets
This connector hose needs deeper sockets. It does not have enough threads available to get started before the washer contacts the fitting. I had to go out and buy a competing product that does have more threads before the washer makes contact. The Brasscraft is on the left in the photo, and the other product is on the right. The difference was not large, but in this case it was enough to make the difference between getting the threads started and not, between success and failure. I returned it.

The 1/2" FIP inlet should work with any 1/2" faucet shank. What fixture type were you using the connector for? Thanks
