Model 744 - nice unit and easy to install
I selected and installed the Model 744 to add ventilation to an existing half bath. I followed the supplied install instructions and had no issues installing the unit. I found the instructions straightforward and easy to follow. The unit has been installed since mid-November of 2020 and I'm very pleased with its operation.

744 SFL performs exactly as advertised
I installed this fixture 3 years ago and it has worked exactly as planned. I use a 220v steam generator everyday (see in photo). I installed a relay that cuts off the humidity sensor 110v power when the steam is on. When the steam timer stops, this relay returns power to the humidity sensor which turns on the fan in about 20 seconds. It runs until my shower is bone dry then turns off even with the door closed. I foresaw that the sensor may cycle if the house humidity becomes high so I installed a separate switch that manually turns off the humidity sensor system if needed and I have a separate timer for manual fan operation. I use a GU24 day white 4100K LED bulb that is like sunshine in the shower. The only issue I have had that moisture on the top of the bulb base has tripped the GFC, but a little WD40 on top of the bulb base has stopped that. Great product. Billy Ferguson

    Disappointing to say the least
I purchased this recessed fan to install above my shower. My duct that runs from the fan to the vent outside is at the most 7 feet. While this fan is very quiet, it performs at a subpar level. My bathroom is about 50 square feet meaning I would need a 50 CFM size fan for proper ventilation. The 744NT fan is 70 CFM so in theory, one would think this fan would be plenty capable of handling my set up. Unfortunately, this fan does not come close to adequately eliminating steam from the shower and I consistently have moisture spots on the ceiling after a shower. Even with the bathroom door cracked open a few inches for extra ventilation, this fan still cannot keep up. Overall, while I like the quietness of this fan, I enjoy the look of it, the practical use of this fan simply fails on all levels and thus, I would not recommend this product to anyone looking to install it in a bathroom/shower application. By contrast, I also have a nutone fan only (no light) installed in my other bathroom. That fan is a 50CFM in a bathroom that is less than 45 square feet & that fan works great. Perhaps the way the recessed fan/light combo is designed prevents the steam from easily being removed. Maybe the light blocks the airflow too much. Whatever the reason, the 744NT is a great disappointment & I now wish I had not installed it. I have also contacted nutone directly to voice my concerns so perhaps they will have a solution.

    Performs Well, Looks Good
I installed this light/fan in a fairly small bathroom that consistently grew mold despite opening the window to the outside. After installing this fan, the moisture level is down to near-zero, even during hot, lengthy showers. It should be noted that I mounted the unit directly over a shower enclosure in an 8 foot ceiling. My only complaint is that unless I'm missing something, given the construction, the fan motor may be difficult or impossible to replace when that time comes.

    Perfect for my particular installation
I was looking for a compact combo light & exhaust fan for an alcove shower installation. I liked the idea that it looked like a regular recessed lighting fixture, and it was supposed to be relatively quiet in operation. Since this was a remodel installation, I needed to climb up in the attic to install. It went very smoothly, but the lack of an included installation template could cause problems if you're not careful. I made my own out of some cardboard from a cereal box, being careful to mark which direction the exhaust duct connection was pointing. Note that the installation instructions (available on this website) made mention of allowing a 1/8" gap between the bottom of the unit and the attic-side of the ceiling wallboard. My unit arrived w/ some foam strips installed around the light/exhaust inlet opening that seemed to force the 1/8" spacing. Even so, I allowed a tiny bit more gap. Also note that, once you adjust the arms that extend from the unit and are nailed to the adjacent ceiling joists, you are supposed to crimp the channels that the arms travel in so they are snug and there won't be any rattling. These 2 things, the gap & the crimping, may be where others who have reviewed this item and complained about the noise went wrong. Electrical hook-up was very straight-forward. I wish they would've included a cable clamp for the point at which the electrical cable enters the unit, but I had a spare one I used. Also note, if you are installing this directly above the shower as I am, it must be connected to a Ground-Fault Isolation circuit. The hardest part for me was running the electrical cable through the walls to hook it up to power & the switch. Once that was done, it worked like a charm. The bathroom isn't yet complete, so I can't fully test the installation for getting rid of moisture. For that reason, I've only rated this 4 stars instead of 5. I can say at this point the noise of the fan will not be able to be heard above the noise of the water from the shower itself. Final note: I think the cost of this unit is a bit high when you look at the actual unit itself. I don't see why it should be so much more expensive compared to other comparable units, but perhaps it's a case of "you get what you pay for". If all goes well with the full operational test, I will probably be buying another one to install in the other full bath upstairs (kids' bathroom) when I tackle that remodel job.

Way Better Than The Ugly Plastic Options
Great recessed light. Nice and bright. Very quiet fan does the job in our 9 x 9 bathroom. So much better looking than those cheap plastic options.

This fan is an excellent upgrade to our bathroom providing increased airflow with a reasonably quiet fan. It was easy to install. Hiding a fan in a bathroom light is a very unobtrusive way to add a fan to an existing bathroom without another “box” on the ceiling.

      Make Room for Exhaust Port
Look for the LED with trim rings version of this found in stock locally. It comes with an LED flood bulb and color accent trim rings for a little bit more. I wish I had gone with that. I didn't account for the exhaust port placement and the extra volume of that plus the insulated flex duct required. Since I installed this on a low roof pitch home, the truss/rafters and the low slope of the roof definitely limited my placement options in trying to position the light centrally in the ceiling. Otherwise its very quiet at 50CFM and the 80CFM option definitely much louder but not abnormal for a bathroom. It conducts a bit of heat from the attic so remember to cover it with insulation when you're done.

A Nice light at a fair price
The product was fairly easy to install and going into six months of service it seems to be fairly quiet. The only short coming is that the fan and the light have to both be on at the same time. As this is in a small guest bathroom it works very well in circulating the bathroom air.
