Questions & Answers

Does the night light stay on all the time, or is a separate switch needed so it can be switched on independently ?

Asked by: David
Hi David. You will need the Broan 4 function switch with 3 rockers / 4 functions control model # 77DW. So that you can turn the night light on and off independently. You can get the switch from Home Depot for $ 20.55 plus tax. I hope I answered your question. Take care

QT Series Very Quiet 110 CFM Ceiling Bathroom Exhaust Fan with Heater, Light and Night Light is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 15.

The fan is a surprisingly large furnace vent style fan, with a 6" exhaust. Not sure how they got it so quiet and stable and still pulling 110 CFM. My current bathroom fan is at least 10 times louder, and occasionally hums as well. This will be a huge improvement. The heater is solid, and blasts out heat quickly. The double light bulb configuration provides a lot of light. It comes with 18w CFL, but they can be upgraded to higher watt LED without upping the power draw. I'd use bright white 5000 warmth bulbs, because the light cover is fairly opaque.

This is my first time using an exhaust fan with a built-in heater and I must say that I’m glad I got it. This unit replaced an older one that was louder and wasn’t keeping up with the moisture after hot showers. This Broan model (QTX110HFLT) is very quiet and does an excellent job exhausting the moisture in the air and any faulty smell from the bathroom. The 110 CFM is noticeably better than the 80 I had before. The heater does well for its size and provides enough heat to keep one warm after a shower. Much better than the old heat lamps. I just hope it lasts as I’ve read mixed reviews.. The installation was pretty straight forward if you’ve installed one of these before. This unit is larger, so most would need to cut out a larger hole in the ceiling (like me) if this is a replacement. New installations are much simpler. The difference here is that the air duct is 6” which was larger than the one I had. I was able to replace it, but there are adapters available for those who can’t. Because of the heating element, I did need to wire another switch to have it powered separately from the lights – so keep that in mind. I got a timer switch so people don’t forget to shut it off. The night light bulb is not included, while two (18 watt) compact fluorescents are provided. They are plenty bright btw. I do wish the unit had built-in LEDs instead. The electric diagram may look confusing at first, but is well drawn to understand all connections and installation variations.

The Exhaust fan motor is so quiet . i had to recheck to see if it was ON. The size of this Exhaust fan is much bigger than my first Exhaust fan . and it sure looks better too. I had to run a new wire with a switch . To make the heater work. well worth the time. This heather work great. Take a look at the pitchers of the size and how good the Bathroom exhaust fan look now.

I was skeptical when reading about the heater feature, but it actually helps to reduce moister build up on and around the fan; it’s a feature I am not sure I could do without now. The fan is very quiet. I thought the fan would be noisy because of the heater and fan combination, but its rather quiet. Not as quiet as they advertise, but definitely quieter than most. The fan is also pretty powerful. It can clear a larger bathroom fairly quickly to keep it smelling and feeling fresh. We will see how long the features last, but for now, a great fan. I am happy I have it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I ordered this Broan Elite ultra-silent ventilation fan with fluorescent light, heater and night-... I ordered this Broan Elite ultra-silent ventilation fan with fluorescent light, heater and night-light model #QTX110HFLT from Home Depot I am in the process of remodeling my hall bathroom and I needed an exhaust fan for the moisture from the shower. I looked online at Home Depot's website. So I went with the Broan I really liked all the features that it came with and Broan is a reputable company and they warranty this unit for 3 years; you can't beat that warranty anywhere. I'm going to enjoy the features on this Broan fan like the heater on those chilly mornings and the night-light so I can navigate my way to the bathroom at night time. These 2 features I really liked the most. The fan housing is L 17 3/4" x W 11 1/4" x H 7 3/4" and it will fit in most ceilings. When I started to install this housing it comes with 4- mounting brackets that was very easy to install. When I ran the wire from the switch box to the fan housing, that was very easy too. I connected the wires to the fan, heater, light and night- light and then I connected the wires to the switch. If you follow the instructions that come with the Broan fan unit it has a wiring diagram that makes it very simple to wire this unit. The wiring diagram was well done and easy to understand. I will say you need to order a Broan 4 function switch / 3 rocker control model # 77DM in order to use the wiring diagram in the instruction manual this can be ordered at Home Depot. The Broan QTX110HFLT comes with everything you need to get it mounted in the ceiling but you will have to get the switch, wire and 6" round duct and a wall vent or roof cap. This was a fun project because I cannot wait to turn this unit on and try all the functions. I have it working now and all I have to do is hook up the duct to the outside and hang the drywall. I turn the unit on for the first time; it works like a charm if you don't have a Broan fan you better get one. You won't be disappointed. I will have some pictures for you below. The grille on this unit is very attractive and white in color. The heater heats the bathroom nicely. The fan is quiet compared to other fans and the lights work like they are supposed to. But I would have liked to have seen LED Bulbs instead of the compact fluorescent bulbs that came with the fan unit. I also wanted to let you know the exhaust fan has a good flow it will clear the bathroom pretty fast. I am very happy with this Broan fan and the ease of the installation. I am already thinking of getting another one for my other bathroom. I made the right choice buying this Broan fan. It's made with quality materials and the installation was pretty simple. I will give this unit 5 stars. This is a top-of-the-line fan and I do recommend it. ( Note ) this fan unit comes with the two light bulbs but does not come with the 7 watt night-light bulb

Several years ago, I installed the NuTone model in our second-floor bathroom to replace an older, failing unit. I decided to use this Broan model to replace a smaller and noisier unit in our first-floor bathroom. The Broan and NuTone companies are related. The two models are identical internally with only cosmetic appearance differences noticeable in the the grill design and lighting cover. I have compared the parts listing and things such as the motors, heating unit, etc (all the major parts) are completely identical. You can save substantial dollars with the Broan, especially if the minor differences in the grilles are not an issue. If you are using this unit to replace an existing heat/vent/light, the wiring for this model can be easily connected using the existing supply wires from the existing unit you are replacing. This model is a larger unit and the opening in the ceiling is approximately 11.5" x 17.5" so it may be necessary for you to enlarge the opening in the ceiling. I had to do this with both the Broan and NuTone units. If you want to utilize the night light feature (I did not), you will need to purchase the Broan 4-Function Wall Control unit which fits in a single-gang box. That switching unit contains a 3-position rocker which controls the light and night light, and two two-position rocker switches to control the ventilation exhaust fan and the heater fan. Wiring to the unit requires 2-12 gauge wires, each containing red, black, white, and ground wires. The wiring diagram in the instructions is for use with the Broan 4-Function switch. Anyone not familiar with wiring should leave the task to an electrician. There are lots of great features in this unit. The exhaust duct is 6" in diameter instead of 4" so that provides better ventilation and quieter ventilation. The ventilation should be directed into 6" ducting and not reduced to the more common 4" size. This model is very quiet. The heat output is good and like all heat/vent units, it's important to periodically clean dust from the grille with a vacuum or air compressor. If you allow dust to reduce the flow of air through the grille, you run the risk of causing the heater unit to overheat and fail. That happened after several years with our NuTone unit and I learned that lesson. Also, for my installation, I chose to go with mounting the control switches in a 2-gang box. For one gang, I installed a double rocker switch which controlled the light and heat functions. In the other gang, I installed a digital timer switch for the exhaust fan so that I could select the run time of the ventilation fan. If showering, it's best to run the vent fan for a 30-minute period to cover the length of the shower and 20 minutes of ventilation post-shower. Digital timers are available with buttons to select times ranging from one minute, five minutes, ten minutes, twenty minutes, thirty minutes, and sixty minutes. This can help to assure that the exhaust/ventilation fan runs for the correct time and is not forgotten in the on position, etc.

I have had a similar model for years and love it. This particular model is much larger than the one in my other bathroom. I had to enlarge the opening from my previous fan (cheap one that came with the cabin) and I did hire someone to install it since it required a four way switch (not included) that I was unfamiliar with. It provides lots of heat, which is wonderful in the wintertime. The night light (which is why it needs the four way switch) is a nice plus.

I've found them to be reliable and very functional, keeping the bathroom warm during even the coldest winter weather, or venting out moisture at other times. This model is larger than what I've installed in the past, and requires a vent cap capable of accepting a 6" duct. My previous units required a 4" duct, and even included an adapter to use a 3" duct, which I've been using. So, I will either need to purchase a new, larger vent cap for this unit, or find an adapter to reduce the duct from 6" to 3". Like my other Broan bathroom fans, this one is quiet, which is better achieved by tightly securing the mounting brackets so they don't rattle, and by using as short as possible ducting. Be advised that a multi-function switch is required, purchased separately. Very nice, and recommended!
