if my fan is pushing air out into my bathroom, what have I done wrong?

if my fan is pushing air out into my bathroom, what have I done wrong?
Asked by: niecy
I can think of a couple reasons. If you replaced the fan and motor did you install it correctly. Did you reverse the fan or the Morton in the housing. Also did you plug the electrical in with the factory plug or did you splice it. You may have reversed the wires.

My Broan 678 fan light fixture is approximately 30 yrs old, will the replacement unit work in my unit.
Asked by: squeakey
I successfully replaced my ventilation (No light fixture) which was from 1988. It fitted well and still working after one year. I suggest: find the item number on your current unit and look for it on the internet and find the equivalent item for it, since the manufacturer might not exist anymore. Good luck.

Which way does the blade go on

Asked by: Nick566
It is supposed to draw (pull) - not push - the air. If you put the blade on and plug it in, you should be able to determine the direction of airflow. Don't touch the spinning impeller!

The first unit I reflexively replaced the entire unit, after two hours in the attic with perhaps 12" of space to operate in Texas summer I thought their must be a better way. When the same fan failed in the washer room I was highly motivated to find a better way. THIS WAS IT! Works as advertised would have been a 10 minute install had I cleaned out the housing before installation. Had a squealing noise that caused me to remove inspect and clean. No issue on the second install. I think it was the flap that is supposed to close when the fan not running. Much easier than a complete replacement, less noise lets hope I get 20 years out of this one.

Although it was stated on your website that these were replacements for parts in my Broan 678 exhaust fan, in fact they did not fit my model 678G. Therefore, after purchasing them online, I had to return them to my local store. As informed by the Technical Support team at Broan, there are a number of versions of the 678 exhaust fan. Broan forwarded the correct parts to me which I was able to install without any problem. When I initially contacted Broan Customer Service, not Technical Support, they informed me that the parts you listed on your website would work.

CAUTION - Be aware of the mounting bolt threaded end vs shaft end orientation on the unit you are replacing. The particular unit I was repairing had the bolt threaded ends and shaft end pointing in the same direction, opposite of the replacement unit. I had to unscrew the two mounting bolts, reverse them, and add 1/4 inch spacers to properly mount the motor in the unit frame. I could then mount the impeller with a hammer and small wood block to protect the plastic.

Replaced two Ventrola bathroom fans from the mid-80's. Both fans were installed by the builder, both original to the building, and both sounded like Cessna Skylanes lining up for take-off. Vacuum out the dust and spider webs first, then proceed with the install. You'll need different hex nuts for the new Broan motor - I bought an inexpensive assortment from the hardware aisle for $4.50. Total time start to finish was about 10 minutes, including hunting down the dustbunnies.

Having the replacement motor as an option saved some money and was a nice alternative to scrapping the entire unit. It was easy to install and delivered by Home Depot as promised. I did not give a 5 star rating because it is not a quiet operating motor. Overall. I am pleased with the cost and ease of installation.

Good replacement parts from the aspect of completing the job. Delivery to the store took more than a week. The fan is much louder than the old one. Like a little noise in the bathroom, but this is noticeably too loud.

I tried to obtain spects and basic information in regards to the replacement motor before placing the order on line and at my local home depot store but such information was not available. Surely enough, the part did not match the existing one and it had to be returned. What a waste of time.
