You can smoke burners in this unit, however if you want hot and fast grilling we would recommend a Gas BBQ or a Pellet Grill.

      Grill quality is meh, customer service is trash
      I received this nearly $700 purchase with a crack in the roof of the firebox; the metal is thin and of an apparent low quality. Perhaps shipping damage, perhaps a casting defect. There were several other points of cosmetic damage on the firebox indicative of either shipping mishandling or quality control that I was not going to worry about dealing with until I found the crack in the roof. The crack is large enough that you can see daylight through it and smoke seeps out of it. I registered the grill and sent three contacts (1 form, 2 direct emails) to Broil King (OMC) in the last week and have received no response. I should not have to be a squeaky wheel to get a replacement part - and all I really want is a replacement roof panel. Does the smoker work? Yes. I haven't had any issues with being too hot - maybe because mine has a roof defect (it's not a defect - it's a feature!). It matches my trusty Broil King Baron that I will not be ordering any further replacement parts for. I haven't decided if it is worth my time to box this thing up, return it, and get a different brand...I've still got the box and awhile to think about it. But if I don't, it (and it's grill companion) will be going in the trash sooner than later and moving to a brand that is a bit more responsive to their customers and a bit more responsible for their defects. Actually, as I sit here and type this, decision made - this thing is going back and Broil King can enjoy their RTV costs.

        Great Unit & Easy to Use
        Been using this since September for pork, chicken, turkey, etc. and I love it. Temp control can be a bit of a learning curve (how much does the heat drop for how long when adding water, meat, wet wood) especially going from 80°+ temps to smoking at 10°, but paying attention and making adjustments goes a long way. Everything has come out smoky and juicy. Would recommend.

            I received the vertical smoker as a father's day gift this year, Brisket was picked up for the day.. while it did take longer than anticipated the end result was appreciated by all. Ribs a couple of weeks later was utter perfection tho.. and on time.. some effort required to ensure cooking cabinet temp stayed within range.. but a good remote gauge with a few probes helps a great deal. Still working on maintaining smoke.. but experimentation is worth the effort.

              Der Vertical Smoker ist einfach nur toll. Ich habe viele Jahre mit einer Lok "gearbeitet", die brauchte aber viel Vorbereitung usw. der Broil King mach alles viel einfacher und die Vorbereitungszeit ist auf ein minimum reduziert und das Ergebnis ist das gleiche.

              Terrible temp control
              Impossible to get this below 200F with gas as low as it can go with all vents open. Absolutely terrible smoker at this price point. As others noted, they have made modifications to make temperature more adjustable, however at this price, you shouldn’t have to. Absolutely do not recommend.

                Tweaked it a bit
                I have smoked sausages, salmon, cod, oysters, mussels, squash and chicken so far. It could use a different burner control as it is difficult to achieve cooler temperatures. I will eventually dummy in a small burner to maintain 100F or so. It was much hotter at the back so I notched the back of the water-pan where it touches the standoffs and bent the tabs up. Uniform heat now. The rack slides will get a screw to hold them in place as they are easily dislodged when swapping hot racks held off-level. Lighting a smolder fire in the wood-tray gives a good smoke once the unit is warm/hot and drawing. All in all a very well built and functional unit

                  Been wondering about this cooking method for some time and finally, due to an in-store promotion, took the plunge. Initial observations, it was well built and well supported. So far, it's been a wonderful learning experience, basically developing a new set of unique cooking skills with tasty results. Never has the cliche "try it, you'll like it" been so true..
