I received the vertical smoker as a father's day gift this year, Brisket was picked up for the day.. while it did take longer than anticipated the end result was appreciated by all. Ribs a couple of weeks later was utter perfection tho.. and on time.. some effort required to ensure cooking cabinet temp stayed within range.. but a good remote gauge with a few probes helps a great deal. Still working on maintaining smoke.. but experimentation is worth the effort.
Got vertical propane smoker yesterday. Putting it together was a slight challenge by yourself but not too bad. Very impressed with quality of steel and overall engineering. Ran a test run to burn off smell etc. Noticed the smoker gets very hot. No worries.
Today for my first run I decided to do some big beef short ribs. Easy peasy. Just to see the smoke performance. I can’t get the smoker below 300 with the knob turned all the way down. I finally turned the valve at the tank almost all the way shut without the flame going out. It got down to 258. I shouldn’t have to do that. And still can’t hit the sweet spot of 225. Btw this is with a digital thermometer that I know is right. Not sure what to do.
Overall it's a very good BBQ smoker, the one problem I have is that the temperature gage only goes to 275 F and stops. I've measured the internal temperature with gages and confirmed the gage on the grill just won't go higher even when the smoker gets to 400 F and above. Other than that the double wall structure keeps the temperatures much more stable than my previous one and overall it's well constructed.
So far, so good. Cabinet construction seems well designed. However, the adjustable shelf brackets slide in so loosely that they are an ongoing concern for slipping out while loading a rack of heavy meat. I just hope that I do not eventually see the brackets fail and have my fresh meat come tumbling out.
We just purchased, assembled and used this smoker for the first time. The assembly was very straight forward and took about 90 minutes. While not perfect, the assembly directions were relatively clear. The smoker itself is very easy to use and gave wonderfully flavored chicken and carrots. Unfortunately, I didn't have any bottles of beer with which to test the bottle opener feature. Next time . . .

Poor packaging. It was delivered with 2 dents in the back. It needs corner packing - like you’d find in an appliance box. Also, performance is lousy if there is any wind. On a positive note, the assembly was rather easy and it looks nice.
Bought this smoker 6 months ago now, temp. gauge was out by 40 degrees, could
not get temp under 260 at first , had to purchase new regulator with a control on it for more range, this worked and can now go as low as 170, wood chip pan was way to far from burner and had to make notches lower to acomadate the rails and now this works, after these 3 mods. this smoker works great, would not recomend this to first time buyer as they may be upset how it works not knowing how to modify it. However I love the quality of it and is now spot on
After 4 modifications made this smoker runs like a charm, temp gauge was 80 degrees out, regulator would only allow to run at 300 at lowest, smoke tray was to high, after making those adjustments the smoker is awesome
Holding a constant temperature was my biggest difficulty, but that seems to be the case with most smokers. Ample rack space give the cook lots of load options. I smoked a brisket my first go, and it was most excellent. My only regret is that I didn't do the potatoes and veggies in the smoker as well. Overall, I like the size of the Broil King Gas Smoker and it's very user friendly. Keep an eye on your water tray and make sure you pre-soak the wood chips.
