Q:Can this item be glued to a concrete floor?
    by|Sep 26, 2024

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello Chris, Thank you for contacting AHF Products. The use of a plywood subfloor when installing solid hardwood flooring over a concrete slab is highly recommended. However, you can glue this product directly to concrete that’s above ground using the recommended adhesive, Bruce Summit Select Unlimited Moisture Vapor Barrier. Use a V Notch trowel, 3/16” x 1/4” x 5/16”, to apply. Please click on this link to review install instructions that include glue-down information: https://tinyurl.com/5n9xmjjm I hope this information is helpful. Q:What type of underlayment should be used when installing this hardwood over existing hardwood floor
        by|Sep 23, 2024

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi Kath, Thank you for contacting AHF Products.  Laminated rosin paper or 15# builders felt acts as a moisture retarder and may be used to reduce movement caused by changes in subfloor moisture.  The use of these materials can also give the flooring a more solid feeling, reduce sound transfer, prevent noise caused by minor irregularities and debris, and make it easier to slide the hardwood together across the surface of the subfloor. Kraft paper may be used to make installation easier but does not serve any other purpose. I hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again by e-mail at productsupport@ahfproducts.com or by phone at 1-866-243-2726, Monday through Friday from 9am to 4:30pm, EST.  Additional information may also be found at our technical website FloorExpert.com.

Terrible quality. Every single board was every which way but straight. Widths varied. I reached out to Bruce customer service and didn't receive a response.

I haven't installed the product yet so can't tell if it's okay. The delivery was less than spectacular though. It looked like it was dropped in my driveway and two of the cases were busted open and the flooring was dented and scratched. I ordered more product than I needed and hope there are enough undamaged pieces to cover the flooring. We'll see.

Bruce Plano Red Oak Marsh 3.25 in - Beautiful!
I ordered 32 boxes of Bruce Plano Marsh Red Oak 3.25 in for 700 Sqft of floor. I had installed vinyl plank flooring before but never 3/4 in hardwood. I watched a lot of different videos on youtube to see different methods how to install. I planned it out very well before starting. I give 5 stars all around. Quality is EXCELLENT! I had very few pieces that were not perfect but I used them along the wall to rip a thinner piece. I only had about 8 pieces left when I finished!

Got to admit this is my first order from Bruce hardwood flooring but I have been disappointed by how many defects in each box have been found. Maybe this is normal with type of product but seems a bit much to me. I bought 13 boxes probably will only be using 10-11 boxes of good quality.

Hi Ronnie, Thank you for taking the time to review our product.  We are very sorry to hear about the experience you have had with our flooring product. It is our goal to provide you with the best possible product and service and we feel that it’s important for us to know if our products fail to meet your expectations. Our Plano collection features a greater amount of visual character, such as wider color and grain variation, mineral streaks, knots and small holes as well as minor milling imperfections as this is part of Bruce’s Natural Grade category. However, if you feel the issues are beyond the expectations of the flooring product, you can have a claim filed with the Home Depot. Your proof of purchase would be necessary to file the claim. Again, I apologize for the experience you had with our flooring. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact our Customer Services at customeradvocates@ahfproducts.com or by phone at 1-866-243-2726, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. EST. Once again, thank you for contacting AHF Products. I hope this information is helpful. Please contact us if you have any further questions. Have a wonderful day. AHFProducts

              Manufacturing Defects
The attached pictures tell the story/boards straight of the box/gross manufacturing defects detected by Bruce in some cases (boards had red/black/gray/yellow grease pencil marks) but boxed and shipped without regard to quality.1. Red grease pencil marks on multiple boards, visually you can see finish was sub-standard 2. Missing splines on multiple boards, many along the entire length of board 3. Large wood chips on 80% of boards at groove end of boards 4. Cracks at end of boards - not due to natural wood features 5. Edge of boards at ends undersized

                Very poor quality control
Quality has gone downhill!! When we purchased this flooring 12 years ago we had very few problems with it. We bought more this weekend for another room and we are extremely disappointed in how the quality is now. There is so much waste in each box. Our main issue is the number of unusable pieces that have holes and other damage that are filled with wood filler from the factory. We understand this is entry level floor but this is terrible! Called Bruce, they basically said it's just how it is.

                Hi there!

Thank you for taking the time to post a review.
Bruce's hardwood floors are a product of nature and therefore, not perfect. Our hardwood floors are manufactured in accordance with accepted industry standards. For optimum performing hardwood flooring, carefully read and follow these installation instructions. Bruce's hardwood floors were manufactured in accordance with accepted industry standards, which permit grading deficiencies not to exceed 5%. These grading deficiencies may be of a manufacturing or natural type. When flooring is ordered, 5% must be added to the actual square footage needed for cutting and grading allowance (10% for diagonal installations; 10-15% for glue down installation).

We strive to provide you with the best possible service and when you feel that it fails to meet your expectations, it’s important for us to know! We hope this information is helpful. Feel free to respond to this message or contact our Customer Services Team at 1-866-243-2726, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. EST. I installed a lot of Bruce Hardwood in the past but the current product is junk. You have to inspect every piece and every box has obvious bad product. I don't know what quality control process they have (obviously none) but it's criminal for the price . I will never recommend this product again to any of my customers as a installer, SAD. Not to mention the delivery to the store, ordered 42 boxes and three were destroyed, so now I had to complain about the obvious damage. They ordered 4 more boxes to be safe because they anticipate more store/ shipping damage. So 2 weeks later they come in and to my disbelief three out of the four boxes were damaged again . O my gosh you are joking that the store would even bother bringing them up front for customer pick up and to think a blind person was going to accept them. Unbelievable, now I asked to speak with a supervisor to try and change their process so someone else doesn't experience what I have and it turned into a argument with him basically telling me that's the way it is and nothing can be done to prevent this from happening to someone else going forward. Well if I owned stock HD I would have sold it that day. Unbelievable that any business let alone two can stay profitable with this mentality and management. I don't write reviews but I will on this experience.

                  Hello Kraig,

We sincerely apologize for the unhappy experience you have had with our product. We strive to provide you with the best possible product and when you feel that it fails to meet your expectations, it’s important for us to know.

The Plano collection is part of Bruce’s Natural Grade category which features a greater amount of visual character – this includes mineral streaks, knotholes, small worm holes, and wider grain and color variation.  Minor milling imperfections may be found as well.  Planks that are believed to exceed the expectations of this product can be set aside as unacceptable for installation and a claim filed for review.  The claim process is initiated by Home Depot. You can take your proof of purchase to them, and they can file a claim for review on your behalf.

Please feel free to contact our Customer Service team if you would like to further discuss your experience. They can be reached by phone at 866-243-2726, Monday through Friday, 9 am - 4:30 pm EST, or email at ahfproductsupport@ahfproducts.com. AHFProducts

Your website should state this is a discontinued item. As such I would have chosen a more common flooring to ensure supply would be available to complete my project. I spent 4hrs driving to various Home Depots to find 7 good boxes.
