Q:Is this a #1 or #2 grade hardwood?
by|May 24, 2023

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Matt, The unfinished lumber we use to make our products is graded based on the frequency of naturally occurring visible characteristics of wood, such as knots, mineral streaks, insect holes, and more. Depending on the design of the finished product, it can be desirable to use lumber with less or more of this natural character, and that creates a more clear or more rustic appearance.  Our finished products are divided into general performance classes of Good/Better/Best. This is based partly on the lumber grading but also other features such finish durability, plank size, specialty face treatments such as scraping or wirebrushing, or other special features. Because of these factors, the grade of the unfinished lumber does not directly correlate to the performance class of the finished product. The performance class is indicated by the length of the finish warranty. Good products will have a 5-15 Year warranty, Better will have a 25-35 Year warranty, and Best will have a 50 Year/Lifetime warranty.  This product has a 50 Year Residential Limited Warranty. I hope this information is helpful. We installed almost 200 sq ft in our dining room. Had a few pieces that some of the tongue was bad but I kept those for the last row and ripped them off anyway. It’s a beautiful floor and went down without any problems. Will be ordering another 400 sq ft to install in the family room.

          absulotely horrible milling
The wood is fine ... the finish is reasonble ... the milling so bad that you cannot lay a great floor (this was the second try first 'Coastal grey was sent back - 1/8 width variance)width are not consistent, Toung and grove milled to sloppy to properly sest and aline the boards in elevation .... some so bad they are firced out of alinement creating offsets ... ends are out of square (never mind the two boards that were 1/4" out of squareDO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU WANT A NICE FLOOR(sorry for typos ... impossible to get back and edit)

            Nice flooring
I noticed another reviewer commented about scratching and denting easily. We have had these in about 2 years...and while we do have some scratches/dents as well I think this is normal for hardwood floors, maybe I am wrong but I know my parents have old wood floors and I know they can scratch as well. I thought with wood floors you just have to take care when moving things along them. We have a dog and so far I have not seen any issues with his paws scratching. The dents you can only see close up. Overall I love the floors. My hubby did not love installing them, it is hard work, I think we will pay for our next room to be done. ;)

Flooring was easy to installed and looks great! While a couple of the pieces did not have the “tongue”, I was still able to use them in areas where it was not needed. Delivery was not acceptable as only a portion of order was delivered on time.

Wood is fine, milling is terrible
Ordered 1,500 ft² from another vendor and had to return it. Product looks fine, but the tongue and grooves are poorly milled so the planks don't lay flat with each other. Really unfortunate because we were looking forward to a beautiful floor. Now we'll have to go with the narrower plank.

                Pretty floor
Pretty floor, went down fairly easily. A lot of the longer boards were warped, so used those as end pieces by cutting them in half. The boards creaked and groaned really badly after installation, but went away after a couple weeks or so, thank God.
