The Buck Bros. 1/4 in. x 5 in. Professional Wood Chisel is useful for any woodworking project. It is designed to make finish or paring cuts on wood surfaces. Hand pressure, when applied evenly, is often sufficient. Deep cuts can be achieved by striking chisel with a hammer. The blade is constructed of high-grade hardened and tempered tool steel. The blade can be sharpened to extend the life. The handle is constructed of premium grade acetate with a steel cap. It is also constructed of with protective blade guards.

A: Yes, this would be an excellent chisel to remove wood around a screw in order to get a pair of vise grip pliers on the screw shaft. I would caution you that you will need to be careful to not hit the screw with the chisel, since it may cause damage to the chisel.

A: It may, up to a point. You wouldn't want the tip of the chisel to make contact with the screw head, it may dull the sharpness. Maybe I would drill into it until I hit the screw, then chisel around it to expose the head.

A: You could use the chisel to remove the wood surrounding the screws, do not use the chisel directly on the screw. This chisel is a wood chisel, use a metal chisel if you want to persuade the screws.

Mostly good

I found myself in semi-urgent need of a 1/4" chisel, and after a little research, this seemed to be the best local option on short notice. The Good: The back was flat out of the package, so it required only minimal work to flatten, sharpen and polish the chisel. The sides are relatively high, making a good choice if you're cutting mortises. The Bad: This is sold as a 1/4" chisel, however as the last photo shows, this comes in shy of the 0.250" mark, actually measuring 0.234".

nice and sharp!

This is my first Buck Brothers’ chisel and it made carving and cleaning edges on my work easy. I’m a novice to woodworking and have other chisels that are dull and unbalanced. Bad chisels make carving a chore. The first time used Bucks Bros it was like, “Wow! What a joy!” Very happy with my choice. Lifetime warranty and made in the USA. Excellent!

I took this product out of packaging, gave it a...

I took this product out of packaging, gave it a sharpening then put it to use right away. I had used a drill press to drill out most of a mortis joint. I was using this to work my way down and clean it out. Light taps with a mallet and very very minimal prying. This is the softest I have used a chisel and it snapped clean in half close to the handle. Disappointing from the 3 pack set I get years ago that I still have and use and have beat up on.
