Q:How do I get the lid on the bucket? Even with a mallet it doesn’t want to go on

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Lidless, Have you separated the rim from the screw-top portion? Sometimes, turning the bucket upside down and pushing down on it has helped give some leverage. Some people have also found using a hairdryer may make it a bit more malleable. We usually suggest the mallet and work your way around the rim. It is designed to be a tight fit.

Q:The bucket that I have my lid on has a crack and needs to be discarded. How do I get my lid set off to place on another bucket without distorting it.

A:  You might try using a lid remover there's a tool that makes it easier to take the lids off without damaging them home Depot sells it. And even then you might use the hair dryer to warm it up as you work your way around

A:  Hi Josephine, hmmm...that is a good question. The only thing I can think of is to use a hair dryer to warm up the lid at the rim, that might give it a little flexibility and help it come off easier. The lids are designed to tightly fit, so you may just have to try it and hope foe the best. It may take some patience.

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi Thomas - Yes, the screw-top lid is considered food safe. You'll notice it has a food-safe sticker with a fork, spoon, and knife indicating it is a food-grade container.

Q:Once you get it on, is it possible to get it off? Some people have to use a mallet to get it on, how would you get it off?

          Answer This Question

A:  Hi Carla, the outer ring is not designed to come off the bucket once it is put on. It would be difficult may distort the ring enough that it would not be useable again. Once the outer ring is seated on the bucket rim, you screw the middle piece on-and-off to gain access to the bucket.

Not good for food. Plastic shavings with first use
I bought this with a food safe bucket to store flour. Cleaned the bucket and lid thoroughly and the first time I twisted it on there were black plastic bits everywhere. Great for anything but food

Will fit any 5 gallons of bucket. The reason why I bought bucket companion which I can open and close the companion for bird seeds in the bucket without need to tear apart the lid which I will open very often

              Water hose
Works great. Keeps insects out of the hose adapters and small yard tools inside and helps support the hose wrapped around it.

              Wood Pellet Storage
I purchased three along with the 5 gallon bucket with the Texas flag printed on it. I'm utilizing to store wood pellets for my pellet smoker. Really good design as the snap ring and the screw top each has a rubber gasket to seal out humidity. I did find trying to install the snap ring onto the bucket was very difficult. Immediately pulled out my rubber mallet and pounded it on with medium force starting at one point working around back to the starting point. Wallah... went on without a hitch. The screw top easily screwed down and sealed. I didn't tighten too hard as thinking when the barometric pressure changed enough to cause a vacuum. I'll see if that problem arises as I'll address it by drilling a hole to the size of a rubber stopper to pull to release a vacuum. This is a great setup to store wood pellets. My sweet wife is going to make some labels for the buckets to indicate the wood species.

I'm using this to hold the wood pellets for my smoker/grill. As these need to remain completely dry, this lid is the PERFECT solution paired with the food certified 5 gallon bucket at Home Depot. My hopper holds about 15 lbs of pellets, and the bucket holds the remaining 25 lbs with room to spare! Keeps them dry & secure and stores perfectly under the smoker on the built-in shelf. I would highly recommend it! Hoping it holds up to CT winters as well as it does the summer thus far.
