Answer This Question
A:Â Wooden dowel will work fine. Be sure to glue it in place and let the glue dry before reinserting the screw.

A:Â You could do that. If it's an exterior door especially, I would cut a piece as long the thickness of the door frame. Use good glue, waterproof it the door is an exterior one. After it is dry completely ( 24 hours) drill a hole smaller than the screw. You can look up the best size hole online, based on the diameter of the screw.

Very solid dowels - I used these to make shorter dowels to make a table base. These hardwood dowels cut and sanded nicely and are holding strong with glue. They didn't crack or split while being pounded in with a mallet. Some of the wood warped slightly and these didn't break while adjusting the pieces to fit

Most of the dowel I found had a bow in them. Some slight and some worse. For what I was using it for I could deal with the slight bow. Other than that they seem to be fine.
