A: You could do that. If it's an exterior door especially, I would cut a piece as long the thickness of the door frame. Use good glue, waterproof it the door is an exterior one. After it is dry completely ( 24 hours) drill a hole smaller than the screw. You can look up the best size hole online, based on the diameter of the screw.
