A:  Yes, it's the best tool for doing so. And while you are at it, locate the distribution box too.

A:  Should work, I work in a cemetery and use it for locating burial vaults. As long as the septic tank top is no deeper than 3.5 feet should work fine

A:  Actually that is it's primary function and is why I purchased it. It works great by the way.

I bought 5 of these and my hopes were high because of how sturdy it looks. I was looking for a product that was not made from fiberglass because they will start breaking down in the sun after 4-5 years. My group has had these for a month. The grips are great and it feels as if it would scoff at any and all soil conditions but the probe does not perform well. The diameter of the shaft can make it difficult to probe into hard soil. Also, I have had 2 probes bend at a degree to which they are now unusable. There is very little tolerance for flexing in this product. If you don't go straight in and out of the ground the rod will bend. If you run into hard material in the ground and or twist the product while in the ground it is possible it will ruin the probe.

48” length was perfect for me since I am 6’6” tall. Was worried about what I read about the welds on the handle. The welds on mine couldn’t have been better. Awesome product for the price. It would be worth twice the price for how well it is made.

I use the probe searching for graves in the cemetery I am in charge of, and have not received any complaints' from the temporary residents, as I search for a grave prior to excavating a void for a new grave.
