A:  Yes it does and a really great tool

A:  Yes, it's the best tool for doing so. And while you are at it, locate the distribution box too.

A:  Should work, I work in a cemetery and use it for locating burial vaults. As long as the septic tank top is no deeper than 3.5 feet should work fine

A:  Actually that is it's primary function and is why I purchased it. It works great by the way.

A:  Yes it is painted so you would need to need to remove the paint in order to achieve good continuity. You would need also to check on it periodically to remove any rust for the same reason. Home Depot does carry ground rods which are better suited electrically for the job and cheaper, they just don't have a T-handle which you could add yourself if you have access to a welder.

A:  Yes it’s coated with a black paint maybe? Might be able to strip it off. Good idea I may try it.

A:  This probe is not bare metal. The probe is coated with paint.

              A:  It is not coated

A:  This item will not work as a grounding rod. I believe Home Depot carries a proper grounding rod in length and material

I bought 5 of these and my hopes were high because of how sturdy it looks. I was looking for a product that was not made from fiberglass because they will start breaking down in the sun after 4-5 years. My group has had these for a month. The grips are great and it feels as if it would scoff at any and all soil conditions but the probe does not perform well. The diameter of the shaft can make it difficult to probe into hard soil. Also, I have had 2 probes bend at a degree to which they are now unusable. There is very little tolerance for flexing in this product. If you don't go straight in and out of the ground the rod will bend. If you run into hard material in the ground and or twist the product while in the ground it is possible it will ruin the probe.

48” length was perfect for me since I am 6’6” tall. Was worried about what I read about the welds on the handle. The welds on mine couldn’t have been better. Awesome product for the price. It would be worth twice the price for how well it is made.

                  Very stiff and sharp.
Went through very rocky soil well. Had to wet ground to go deep because we are in a drought.
