I haven?t had this problem. I repot my starts to harden them off. I don?t put my trays in the sun and I don?t have issues.

Hello, When using these items during our trials we could not duplicate the silicon cracking, so these are actually very hardy. If the item is stored outside or exposed to the outdoors during the winter season, this could cause the material to wear out sooner. So it is best to store these when dry and indoors during the cold months. Overall we have many customers successfully use these year after year.

Use and stow away from sun exposure. Clear plastics will become brittle quickly under summer sun. The silicone takes a little bit longer. I prefer these over peat pots and the black plastic starters.

Will these trays fir into a 10?x20? tray in order to use a dome cover?

                  Answer This Question

Yes it fits in in 10 by 20 tray. Also you could just use plastic wrap. When it was tested, it did not need a dome.

The tray fully loaded with soil and seeds fits nicely in the plastic bags used in our local grocery stores for loose veggies. Fold the bag over the open end and seal it with 3-4 paper clips, binder clips or two potato chip bag clamps.

Horrible plastic splinters after one season with with outdoor use.
I invested in two of these about three years ago, expecting them to last for years. I got one good season out of them (using inside only). The second summer, I left them outside in full sun, subjected to the elements. The plastic in top and bottom trays degraded, turned incredibly brittle (shatteringly brittle) and fell part at the touch. I have cheap, super thin, crappy plastic seeding trays that have outlasted these by a mile. Don't buy this if you expect to use them for more than one season.

Great design except lack of dome
I am very happy with these trays, the size of the cells, and the provided outer tray for watering and support. The only thing that could have made this product better was inclusion of a reusable humidity dome for when you are starting seeds. I had to use plastic wrap, which seems a shame with such a lovely looking product.

What is the mold? Fungus? Yuck!
Very disappointed I bought 2 of these trays. First, I thought they came with a dome, and they don’t. Next when I lifted the tray out of bottom, the silicone and tray was covered with some weird mold? I’ve never seen anything like it starting seeds. The tray was under a grow light but not on a heating pad. So gross! Will not be purchasing again!

I got this to use as a mode to make Dobies for a concrete project not to plant seeds. it worked perfect for my need and I can use it over and over again. I am sure it will work for planting seeds as it was made for that reson.

Deteriorates in the sun. Is for *plants*
Properly reusable, plastic brittle within one year of use, cracking off at edges just from being moved. Nearly crumbles after second year. It's for plants. It's supposed to be on the sun. Is not supposed to be made of uv sensitive material. Even the flexible bottoms rip easily when stretched, and they were protected from sun exposure by having dirt in them

Poor product. Must be something other than silicone.
This is CERTAINLY NOT reusable in the long term. I do not believe that flexible silicone would dry out and turn brittle... but the Burpee "silicone" product did just that. I bought several of these expensive seed starter trays thinking that they would be the last I would have to purchase. I was wrong. Poor purchase on my part.

These make growing seeds so easy! They hold the perfect amount of seed starting mix. Dampen, and then fill the bottom tray with water and poof - little strong seedlings. Two fit perfectly on standard seed heating mats. I ended up buying more - easy to clean as well.
