On Trend Doorway Solution! The 79 in. Classic Bent Strap Barn Style Sliding Door Track and Hardw...
On Trend Doorway Solution! The 79 in. Classic Bent Strap Barn Style Sliding Door Track and Hardware Set is the perfect solution to an awkwardly placed doorway from my Master Bedroom to a 3 Season Room. The previous owners had simply removed the door and left the opening but I wanted a door that didn’t take up valuable floor space and also let in light from the 3 Season Room. The Barn Door is the perfect solution! The box contains the parts and instructions, which are in metric and consist of pictures of the steps. I began by converting the metric measurements to inches. After reading other reviews, I was concerned that the hole spacing on the track would be a problem so to resolve the hole spacing problem, I cut a 2X4X8 pine board down to 79”, ripped it to 3”, angled both ends at 45 degrees to make them look more finished, planed the edges to a rounded profile, sanded it, painted it to match my wall color and using the track as a guide, marked where the bolts to secure the track will go. Then I screwed the board to the wall framing using wood screws, drilled pilot holes followed by a larger drill bit and installed the track with the bolts and spacers. It turned out that the hole spacing wasn’t an issue because all the bolts except for one went into the headers (my pine board extends to the header of the closet door). I still needed the pine board to bring the slider out past the door frame. Finally I installed the rollers onto a painted pine door and Voila! Door Install Accomplished! The install is pictured, except for removing the window film that is covered in paint. Finally, there will be parts leftover and I need more washers to make the door bolts tight. I am also going to buy 4 small bolts/nuts to fill the holes at each end of the track where you could attach 2 or more tracks together. If I can't find bronze, I will just paint them. Overall, I love the end result and may add additional Barn Doors to my home.

Just what I needed
This is just what I needed for my remodel project. I changed my basement door from a single swing 30 inch door to a double barn door slider that measures 72". This was a pretty big project, and required some demolition, but in the end it was worth it. I butted two of these kits together and used the part # SDH-TSQ-CONNECTOR-AB also on homedepot.com to secure them at the end with the pre-drilled holes. There is the issue of the 17.5" OC measurement for the rail. I did not find this to be as big of a problem as most did. I opened the box and took measurements before I finished the sheet rock. My solid door header took care of most of this issue, and for the ends I just added a 2x4 brace laterally between the king stud and the next stud in the wall. This essentially made my mounting area solid, and the mounting holes could have been anywhere on the rail. I am sure that if you are just doing a basic remodel, with little structural changes, the pre-drilled holes could become an issue with 16" OC framing. I made my own solid alder "Z" barn doors, and they look worked great. The rail and hardware were able to handle the weight of the solid wood doors and they glide smooth on the track. I would recommend this product, but be aware that as with most re-model projects, be prepared to do a lot more work underneath the surface that you originally planned!

Some issues...
So I was really excited to get this! And after getting it, I will say it is of a decent quality, it looks really good and the size is nioce. Now comes the BUT... As I see others have mentioned it is pre-drilled with mounting holes at 17.5 inches on center vs. 16 on center which is standard. So as for now I can't install it (and rest easy with a random sheetrock anchor supporting the weight of this and the door itself. Once I figure out how to mount it so it doesn't look rigged it will be fine, but for the amount of modification I will have to go through to get this up it doesn't seem worth it. I also attached the directions as an FYI, they are metric so will take some figuring on your part to measure where everything needs to be.

CALHOME 79 in. Classic Bent Strap Barn Style Sliding Door Track and Hardware Set
Heres a few things to keep in mind about this Barn Door Hardware: First is that the instructions use metric measurements. Second, The pre-drilled holes are not spaced 16" apart, so if you are planning on installing it, you may need to drill new holes into the track bar to work. Another option I've seen done is to install a 1x4x6 board and nail it to the wall into the studs, then you can install the track using the existing holes. Alot of doorways have a header board going across the door, so the spacing may be a moot point, just keep this in mind. Overall, the hardware is good, built very strong and solid. I love the color and the styling. The kit is perfect for projects such as entertainment centers and other DIY projects. However this hardware may not be suitable for every project due to a couple shortcomings mentioned above, plus the instructions are just illustrations with no written explanation about what is going on and can be confusing on what they are trying to show you. I have included the instructions in the 2 photos that are included with this review. I just can't recommend this product as it is, because I think it could have been made so much better with some small changes.

Would have been 5 stars except the color sure looks black, not antique brown, bronze or anything else; would be nice if the instructions were written instead of just pictures.

The track is excellent and would have gotten 5 stars if the holes were 16" on center. So I used a header board which worked perfect to hit the studs. I installed 3 tracks, the doors came out great.

This was great for my outside covered parking area. I store my Harley under a tin-covered parking structure that is open in front. This allowed me to install a sliding door in front of my motorcycle to protect it from the sun. I had to get a longer strap to fit my structure, but the 1/4" wide strap was semi-easy to find. The longer strap allows me to have protection from the sun both for my Harley, and then to switch that coverage to my outdoors woodworking are. (Only in Arizona!) As a note, I installed this under cover of the tin roof, but I expect it could be installed outside if you would fabricate a covering for the bearings in the sliding section. (Easy to do if you can work with sheet metal.)
