Will this system work with 5/4 in. x 6 in. deck boards, or do you have to use 2 in x 6 in ?

Yes will work for 5/4” boards. Suggested using 1 7/8 screws for 5/4 board

Will this work with a ratchet driver? Or it's it only for a chuck drill?

Asked by Wormfood September 29, 2018

Thank you for your CAMO question. Assuming that you are speaking about an impact driver, not a ratchet screwdriver, both types of drills will work for installing CAMO. While we prefer a chuck drill, our only recommendation is to use a drill with as high of RPM as possible. The impact driver may slow down installation as the screw will cut more slowly as it begins to "impact". Thank you for viewing this CAMO product! -Team CAMO

I am installing 1x4 mahogany. 3/16 inch gap seems a bit extreme for dried hardwood. Which tool and screw is best for me?

Thank you for your CAMO question. We recommend using our CAMO Marksman PRO-NB Tool (345015). This will be the best CAMO tool to use with the narrow deck boards. With hardwood, the minimum recommended gap at installation is 1/8 in. If the deck boards are dry, they are more likely to expand than they are to shrink, which will help reduce that 3/16 in. gap after installation. For fasteners, use our 1-7/8 in. Stainless Steel Edge Screws (0345224S). The 1-7/8 in. is the recommended length for 1 in. thick decking and the stainless steel coating is best practice when using hardwoods, due to the acidic nature of the board. We also recommend pre-drilling. Thank you for viewing this CAMO product! -Team CAMO

Duane, Thank you for your CAMO question. We have many videos showing the installation process of the CAMO Edge Deck Fastening System. Some of the CAMO items on homedepot.com feature a CAMO installation video (check out model #345124/Home Depot #991653) that will walk you through how the CAMO system works. If you are looking for more detailed videos or decking material specific videos (such as how to use CAMO to install grooved deck boards), then your best bet is to check out the videos on the CAMO YouTube channel. The channel can easily be found by going to camofasteners.com and clicking on the YouTube icon in the upper right corner of the home page. Thank you for viewing this CAMO product! -Team CAMO

I have removed my boards as I forgot to rotor the square edges to give the entire deck the rounded edge look. Finding the camo screws isn't that hard.

You cannot assemble outdoor deck without gap. you always need to leave a gap 3/16" so the rain and dirt can pass through. this tool is a specific one that work on the last row of deck. and still keep the gap.

Deciding factors when choosing CME vs CME pro

Thank you for your question about this CAMO product. When selecting the best CAMO tool for your project, you need to take into account the type of decking material you will be installing, as well as your desired gap size. Below is a breakdown of the CAMO tools and best materials to use them with. - CAMO Edge Tool (#345020): Allow for no gap installation or can be used with secondary spacers in the event you would like spacing between your deck boards; ideal for use with treated lumber so the deck boards can be placed tight together (to compensate for board shrinkage after the material dries). -CAMO Marksman Pro Tool (#345001): Features 3/16" spacing between deck boards; ideal for installing PVC, composite or hardwood deck boards, it can also be used with cedar and other softwood decking in the event you would like a slightly larger gap. It is for use with deck boards measuring 5-1/4" to 5-3/4" in width. -CAMO Marksman Pro-X1 Tool (#345002): Features 1/15" spacing between deck boards; ideal for installing treated lumber, cedar and other softwood decking. It is for use with deck boards measuring 5-1/4" to 5-3/4" in width. -CAMO Marksman Pro-NB Tool (#345015): This tool works exactly like the CAMO Marksman Pro Tool, but is made for installing narrow deck boards. Whereas the CAMO Marksman Pro is designed for installing deck boards measuring 5-1/4" to 5-3/4" wide, this tool is designed to install deck boards measuring 3-1/4" to 5" in width. It features the same 3/16" spacer. Thank you for viewing this CAMO product! -Team CAMO

Can this be used on 2 x 6 decking

Asked by Vic0476 June 15, 2016

Answer

CAMO can be used to install 2x6 deck boards! When installing 2x6 decking, you will need to use the 2-3/8" CAMO Hidden Deck Screws. They are designed for deck boards measuring 1" - 1-1/2" thick. The 1-7/8" CAMO Hidden Deck Screws should only be used when installing 5/4 decking (boards measuring 3/4" - 1" thick). The thickness of the deck board does not impact your CAMO Tool selection. The Marksman Edge Tool is designed for installing treated decking and other softwood decking as it allows for no gap installation. You can use this tool with 5/4 or 2x6 decking. Great product for hiding deck board fasteners! Just built a little 10' garden footbridge over a landscaped dry creek bed for drainage. I did not want.to see fasteners through the face of the deck boards. Looks great! Just be aware when you buy, you must also use CAMO finishing screws as this tool wknt work with just any deck screws. Had to make a trip back to HD to get them after unpackaging. Really easy to use on any drill once you set your clutch so you dont overdrive the screws.

Completed approximately a 300 sq/ft deck with this tool, a little slower using this system, but the outcome was great. Changed bit one time, great tool for the price, is plastic and doesn’t feel heavy duty, but had no issues and tool held up well.

It worked pretty good most of the time. The plastic base case did not feel solid after some use. I felt it a bit wiggly while screwing. But overall it helped get my job done building 48 feet fence and making it look nice.

Interior clip broke off after only a couple of dozen screws. Fell apart and I had to keep replacing the clip to continue. The undercut on the shaft is not sufficiently deep to keep the clip in place.

The unit has a magnet that is supposed to hold screws in it while in use. Stainless Steel is not magnetic, so the screws fall out. This requires the user to hold the screw in the unit until the unit is landed on the edge of the board. I would not recommend this for SS camo fasteners.
