Q:Plugging into the outlet, does it plug into the top or the bottom on the receptacle. Where is the longer round lead go top or bottom. When it's plugged into the wall, which receptacle is open the top one or the bottom one? So hard to describe. Thank you, Randy

Answer This Question

A:  The surge protector you selected has a single plug (2 metal blades and a ground post) and a plastic ground post to help secure it when plugged in. The metal blades and ground post goes into the top receptacle and the bottom plastic post goes into the ground portion of the bottom receptacle.

Q:When there's a surge & it trips, will it continue after? I want to hook to a fridge & a freezer but after it trips, I want power to continue so I don't lose my food. I'm OK w/ it being a 1-time trip and replacing it but NOT OK if it trips and the power to the plugs stops. Considering getting one with an alarm and need to ask the same question to those guys. THANKS

A:  I would think you would have to replace it after it trips, there is no way to reset it.

          by|May 5, 2023

A:  This type of surge protector is sacrificial, it takes the hit instead of your electronic device. Thus when a surge is stopped the device is destroyed and must be replaced. It does not reset. Mike

A:  I live in Florida and I lose power weekly and it still works

          by|May 5, 2023

A:  If there is a power event (surge or spike) that the surge protector needs to absorb to protect your equipment, it will not turn back on. The unit served its purpose and will not operate anymore to prevent your equipment from operating when its not being protected. You will need to replace your surge protector at that point. If power is interrupted, but there are no damaging spikes or surges the protector needs to absorb, it will turn back on when power is restored. For units with a power switch/breaker, those should only trip if the unit is overloaded (has too many device connected and it exceeds the power available on the circuit). The protection is provided by the MOVs and internal fuse (not the breaker).

              Great for gadget center
After finding we were charging laptops, phones, and our son's tablet in the same place, but always having to jockey around plugs, the CE TECH 2-Outlet USB Wall Tap Surge Protector is the perfect answer. We can now have all our devices charging and keep all the cables neat and tidy. But to sweeten the deal, the devices offers surge suppression on top of it all. Very easy to install, just plug it in, and you're all set. I would have liked to see a center screw (similar to the Belkin BSV602), so it stays on the wall if you have a tight plug you're trying to remove.

              Handy Unit
This is an affordable handy unit for converting a standard duplex outlet to a surge protected duplex outlet with USB device charging capability. Not only are AC devices plugged into the unit protected from high voltage electrical surges, so are any USB devices being charged by the unit. I was concerned about parasitic current draw of this device so I used my Kill-A-Watt to measure power consumption with nothing plugged in. I am sure there is some parasitic current draw, at least to illuminate the two LED indications. However it appears to be less than one watt as my meter measured zero. There is only a single plug at the back of the unit and a plastic pin to align with the second outlet. This isn't necessarily an issue unless plugging into a split duplex outlet where one outlet is controlled by a switch and the other outlet is always on. Most plug taps will have two plugs on the back to keep the duplex outlet plugs working independently of each other if needed. I installed this unit in an outlet in our master bath above a cabinet shelf we keep towels and supplies in so I can charge my fitness tracker and cell phone more conveniently each day.

The company (after spending a week trying to locate who to call for a claim) will not honor the replacement cost for the labor to have an item repaired that was plugged into this product. It was plugged into a 3 prong grounded outlet and the appliance plugged into it at the recommendation of the appliance manufacturer following a repair after a power outage. We aren't asking for a new $800 appliance - we are asking for the labor charge to install the new computer/brains for the appliance that the manufacturer warranteed. This company (who now goes through "Cyber Power Systems" for claims, said they will not cover anything and basically tough luck. Don't recommend this item or anything by CE Tech for that reason. It was installed in a dry inside location.
