Would I be able to install a thin recessed light such as "Halo HLBSL6 6 In. Adjustable CCT Canless lights" into the tiles using this system? I understand the junction box would need to be mounted on the joists.

      Answer This Question

Thank you for the great question! Any type of lighting that can be used with a drywall ceiling can be used with CeilingMAX. Whichever type of light you choose, you must make sure that it is mounted or suspended from the floor joist, and not resting on the tile or the grid. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to us at 800.434.3750. Thank you!

Thank you for your interest in our products! That would be dependent on the tile you plan on using for your system. Most allow for them to be cut to accommodating lighting fixtures but recommend anchoring them to a joist for additional support. Feel free to check with the manufacture of the tiles you plan to use. If you have any additional questions regarding our products, feel free to reach out to us at 800.434.3750. Thank you!

This grid system is designed to work with any standard 2 ft. x 2 ft. or 2 ft. x 4 ft. ceiling tiles. Since the Armstrong tiles you mentioned are 24 in. x 24 in. (which is 2 ft. x 2 ft.), they will be compatible with this grid system.

Are the tiles easily removable for access with this system?

                    Answer This Question

Thank you for your interest in our CeilingMAX system! To remove a tile once the ceiling grid is installed, you will first need to unsnap a runner on one side of the tile. To unsnap the runner, you will need to start at the end of the runner and pull down. The runner will pull away from the top hanger, similar to a zip-lock bag. When you have the runner unsnapped, you will then be able to rock the cross tees and remove the tile(s). After you have the runner removed, you could also back out the screw in the top hanger near the tile you would like to remove. This would allow you to twist and flex the top hanger to get the cross tee and tile out. After your work behind the tile is complete, (screw the top hanger back into place if the screw was removed), slide the tile back into place, once again rocking the cross tees, and snap the runner back into the top hanger. if you have any additional questions please feel free to reach out to us at 800.434.3750. Thank you!

I'm installing a ceiling in a basement where using sheetrock would be problematic and a normal suspended ceiling would bring down the height too much. I started with this new grid concept in a storage room and new bathroom I've installed and after I figured out some process steps, its went really well and looks pretty much like a suspended ceiling. I'm so encouraged by the results, I'll be doing the rest of the basement this summer. Much of the technique for getting things aligned is like suspended ceiling, but it's not as forgiving, so plan carefully

Not enough usable pieces, cross tees not working
This is a disasterous kit. The 2' cross tees are totally different profile, they don't match with the 8' runners in depth and they don't click in the base profile at all, meaning they are useless as is. The 7 pcs 8' long base was not enough for a 90 square feet area, although the kit says it covers 100 square feet. Would have needed 1 more 8' piece from that just to make it enough. I would never buy this product ever again. For the price of it at least the kit should contain at least the required amount and matching pieces to cover the 100 square feet as advertized.

Easy to install - Poorly engineered
Pros; Easy to install, lightweight and does save some ceiling space. Cons: If your ceiling is any other size than 8ft x 8 ft, you'll need the 100 sq foot kit instead. There are no extra pieces, and you can't buy individual replacement parts if you mess up. There are no instructions in the box The cross bars are 23 inches long, so they are too short for 24 inch panels. This is only good for flat ceilings, if you're looking to box in furnace vents, you'll need 2 sets

Thank you or your review of our CeilingMAX grid system. We are sorry to hear you weren't pleased with our components. Our cross tees must be used as a spacer to install the system, as it cannot be installed 24" on center like a typical metal grid would be, as the tees are 23" in length. There is additional space on both the wall bracket and the runner component for the tiles to rest on. Most ceiling tiles measure under 24" x 24", as industry standard is 23.75" x 23.75", so there is plenty of space to install typically 2x2 panels. Please let us know if you have any additional questions at 800.434.3750 and we would be happy to help.
Wasn’t a very easy installation, Had to buy this extra kit for 2 extra border pieces after buying 2 larger kits . Not very happy with the ease of installation they claim is easy ! I won’t recommend doing yourself install to anyone .

The kit was what we were looking for to flush mount. However, due to it being plastic there was a little too much flexibility with pieces when installing, leaving lines not entirely straight. The installation directions could use more descriptive details. We had to watch several YouTube videos to fully understand the install process and due to the shape of our room needed to make quite a few modifications.

                            Manufacturing ERROR!!
DO NOT BUY!!! I bought 3 boxes to install 2x2 ceiling tiles. This kit said it’s meant for 2x2 tiles. The little grid pieces that are meant to be placed every other tile measured out to 1 ft, 11in. Rather than the 2ft that the box said. These piece did not fit the grid. They kept falling out. These pieces were all too small in all 3 boxes I purchased. Big waste of time and money..

Thank you for your review of our CeilingMAX grid system. Our system varies from typically grid installations, as stated in the installation guide our cross tees are meant to be used as a spacer. This differs from typically grid installations where components are installed 24 x 24; on center. Unfortunately, that type of install does not work with our system and will cause issues when installing your tiles. We recommend revisiting the installation guide for additional prep and install details. Please let us know if you have any additional questions at 800.434.3750. Thank you.

Tips for use of this Ceiling Grid.
We bought the grid kit to install 24" thin vinyl faux tin ceiling tiles in a new basement bathroom. We thought that the flanged tiles would look great, as well as preserve the ceiling height. Unfortunately, the thin flanged tiles do not look good, as the cut off edge pieces don't match with the interior tiles. We sent the tiles back and are awaiting perfectly flat, plain tiles, so all tiles--pieces and wholes--will look alike. If a regular, thick tile which can be recut to make a new flange were used, this grid kit might work; but for the thin, flexible patterned flanged tiles in a basement bathroom with many boxings (meaning many edges) around pipes in the ceiling, this grid is not the best. Also, when placing the grid runners, watch carefully as to install them so they are perfectly straight, as their flexibility makes it trickey. And when hanging edge J-channels, be sure your tiles are compatible with the channel overlap at corners. The thin, flexible tiles are not as forgiving of the double layer of the edge and look a little raised.
