Q:The specs state this has ?Aluminum links with zinc alloy? but it?s supposedly a magensium rod. Someone else asked this question a few months ago and got no reply. Can we get some clarification on this please?

Answer This Question

A:  It looks like it may be the aluminum/zinc alloy but it isn't easy to be sure. The magnesium rods have a small raised dimple on the top of the threaded end piece. Also the magnesium is a darker silvery grey color while the aluminum alloy is bright silver.

    Great Kit! Worked Beautifully!
Ordered these products recently and finally installed my anode rod today. The socket fit perfectly and so did the new anode rod. I used it all on my Rheem 40 Gallon Water Heater that I purchased at Home Depot in August of 2019 and installed myself. I didn't use the teflon tape . Instead I used a pipe dope sealant with teflon in it (PTFE) so it's like a paste. I highly recommend the combo kit. Will purchase again in 2 years.

This anode rod is significantly smaller in diameter than the flexible one available from Rheem (0.7 vs 0.9 inches). In addition, I think the product sent to me was not magnesium as I believe magnesium anode rods have a 'bubble' at the end (the part that is threaded) to indicate it is made of Mg. This was flat which I think means it is aluminum (?). I'm returning it back to Home Depot.

Great product in a good kit. It even comes with the socket to make the job easy. Will buy again in a couple of years when it’s replacement time

        Product Name is Incorrect
This product specifies 4-sections of Magnesium Anode Rod whereas when reviewing the product details it is actually 4-sections of aluminum links with zinc alloy. Product Name is incorrect.

This the second time I have changed this rod. It is not difficult. Doing this every two or three years extends the life of the tank. This replacement rod works perfectly.

          Not Magnesium
Ordered two of these and was happy with speedy free delivery and unexpected 1/2 inch socket tools for installation along with a roll of Teflon tape. But these rods are most certainly not magnesium by color comparison to other genuine magnesium rods. After suffering more than one gushing water heater and resulting mess in adjacent rooms I now replace the rod annually. I'm always surprised at how much is eaten away from the old one and I'm leery to use aluminum rods as magnesium are recommended.
