Product Details

Cal-Flor's SilverStep underlayment is folded in an accordion style to speed up the installation process by lying flat and not curling or re-rolling. This underlayment has a printed grid on top, which makes laying and trimming to fit a room easier. SilverStep's cross-linked (closed cell) foam provides superior protection from both moisture and sound (noise) sources (IIC 72; STC 66). The extra thick pad provides good thermal insulation properties and makes it especially suited for subfloors with a rougher than normal finish. This underlayment can be used on radiant heat floors.
  • Double protection: 3.2 mm cross-linked polyethylene foam with added film barrier
  • Superior sound-dampening: IIC 72; STC 66
  • Accordion folded ensures that underlayment will lay flat during installation
  • Positioning tape seals out moisture and speeds up installation
  • Unfolds to 43 in. x 28 ft. x 3.2 mm for a total of 100 sq. ft.

A:  Hello Curious Tom, SilverStep is designed to be used as a flooring underlayment between a hard subfloor and the flooring. Any use of SilverStep outside of what it’s designed for has not been tested.

      A:  No. However SilverStep can be used under some thicker (>1/4”) WPC flooring (wood-plastic-composite), but as with any flooring, please follow the manufacturer’s recommended installation methods and products.

        A:  This should not be used as a barrier for insulation. It is to be used for flooring application and not insulation methods where you are trying to limit movement of vapor.

            I recently received a SilverStep 100 sq. ft. 43 in. x 28 ft. x .126 in. Premium Cross-Linked Polyethylene Foam Underlayment & Moisture Barrier which I hoped to use for placing under a laminate floating floor. In addition to that I was hoping to place it under some snap planks of Vinyl for a bathroom . When the underlayment arrived it was damaged but give the nature of the product its not such a big deal but still it was half open which is not a great start. The product itself seems to be made ok with the film being consistent but I found the foam not to be very dense and I wonder how long it would hold up. The issue I have with this product is when I compare it to another premium product that a national discount flooring place sells that I have used many times. The film on the silverstone is of much thinner quality and no where near the durability of the other products. Same can be said of the padding itself. This is a lower priced Premium underlayment but when you spend a lot of money for what goes on top of this, I will opt to spend some more on the underlayment to not be penny wise pound foolish. I would say this is a good product for a lower use area but I would not use it in a heavily trafficked area or with a heavy flooring on top of it.

            Great product, easy installation and thicker than other underlayments.
            [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The underlayment is easy to use and install. the glue strips on one side of the product makes it easy to install the adjacent row of underlayment and creates a proper connection. The material does the job and I have no complains from my neighbours etc.. You should note that it is thicker than other materials and therefore also a bit softer. Depending on your floor and liking, you should consider this when purchasing.

              I spend quite some time for research for underlayment for...
              I spend quite some time for research for underlayment for my laminate floor over the concrete. . It has to be waterproofing and has to be thick enough. This item has self adhesive on the side to put together. It's lines make it easy to cut in sizes. I can recommend this item.
