      Q:Why does this shelf have a Prop 65 warning? Also, does it offhand vocs?

      A:  Hi Kristin, The state of California requires us to put on the Prop 65 warning. It meets all other states' safety requirements. The finish applied to this bookcase is a urethane based finish, which is commonly used throughout the manufacturer of wood products. It has a low to medium VOC emission, which generates a slight smell when initially exposed from the carton, which is normal. The smell usually dissipates within a short amount of time. Some people may be more sensitive to this type of odor than others, however these are completely safe and will eventually dissipate further. All coatings and finishes applied to any of our products have been laboratory tested to confirm conformity to government and industry standards regarding presence of heavy metals ensuring they are deemed by norm to be safe products.         Q:Is the fixed shelf weight capacity mean the top of the bookcase? 50 lbs does not seem like a lot (looking for a fish tank).
