What else do I need to paint with a primer and latex paints? Do I need to rent a compressor?

I want to paint with latex paint my rooms inside the house, is there a lot of overspray that makes the job too messy? Thanks
Asked by: Sakis
Don't paint on a windy day and make sure you cover and tape areas you don't want sprayed. Generally speaking, overspray will turn into dust at a longer distance as it dries in the air before it adheres. When in doubt - COVER and PROTECT.

I dinged my garage door and had to replace a panel. Can I use this thing to paint the new panel with "outdoor" (I assume latex) paint? Can I also use it to stain a wood fence? I do have a compressor.
Asked by: TreborTX
Absolutely! Follow the instructions with the sprayer and with the paint itself for spraying. Instructions mean everything. With this in mind, your project will be professional, easy, and cost effective!!!

Can I paint a house with this

Asked by: Jay
The canister is small and painting an entire house will take a lot of refills. To heavy of a coat will have the paint running, so I would not recommend this model for that type of project.

Easy to set up except the adjustment knob, even though it is knurled, is very hard to turn. Had to use a pair of pliers to adjust as it would just slip through my fingers. Would be much better if it had a larger area and flat sides to grip with. Only comes with the single air cap and don't forget to buy a set of air gun cleaning brushes or it will be useless the second time you try to use it. Lots of small holes that need to be cleaned out. Even the air feed holes at the tips required a sewing needle to clean out the paint, so be ready for cleanup before you start your project. Otherwise, seemed to work ok, with good spring tension and quick stopping of the flow when the trigger was released. A good budget spray gun, but nothing special. The siphon tube is also removable for cleaning. And sometimes refilling is a pain as it is hard to get a grip on the canister to twist open.

The important aspect is to follow the instructions for settings, and experiment on similar material to get the ideal pressures, flow, and spray before beginning your task. Your results will be the effort you put forth before attempting to do your work. The adjustments were a breeze. I do recommend using an air dryer with your compressor especially if doing spray work in a humid environment. It is easy to get water droplets with any sprayer if you don't. With the air dryer on the compressor, the spray was beautiful. The speed of painting was insanely fast, once everything was ready to go. I liked the fit of all the parts and connections, and the clean-up was beyond easy. I added approx. 4 ounces of mineral spirits to the sprayer and shook it well, and simply sprayed into a large trash can with a trash bag and wadded paper towel to catch the mineral spirits and for easy disposal. I repeated this process once and the canister and supply tube was spotless, as well as all the exterior spray components being meticulously cleaned.

This 1 QT. spray gun by Campbell Hausfeld is well made and easy to use and good for small paint projects. You may also use it on larger projects with remote canisters. The spray gun works with both enamel and latex paint and I was very impressed by how even the paint outcome is. The design of the handle is quite ergonomic and not as stressful as some other spray guns. Clean up is also quite easy. Overall, it is a reliable and easy to use spray gun good for many type of paint jobs.

We are using it to paint a large patio cover and we have to fill it quite often. Does do a good job of covering the old color. The unit comes with two spray heads and has the ability to use a pressurized paint pail with a little modification which comes with the instructions. So it is a very versatile sprayer. Everything is included with the sprayer and is top quality for a small sprayer.

I started out with my wife's ugly green cabinet and fifteen minutes later it was pretty white. It took another 10 minutes to clean up and I was done. This spray gun has an adjustable pressure valve and two pattern nozzles included. The paint bottle seals up nicely and the handle and trigger are easy to hold and operate. There is a built in hook at the top so that the gun can be hung rather than resting on the bottle. The pressure in my compressor bowed the bottom of the paint bottle suggesting that it could be of a bit more robust construction and the gun didn't come with a standard pneumatic fitting at the handle so one had to be purchased. Clean up was quick and easy and the gun operated flawlessly once in use.

First, I want to say that I’m great with a spray can, but I am a novice when it comes to using an air compressor and spray gun. I have painted a few cars, but I was using a compressor and paint for that specific purpose. All the other painting I have done in the recent past has been with using water based latex paint or common lacquer spray cans. My idea with this spray gun was to use my 8 gal. 150 PSI low volume air compressor to spray a water thinned and strained latex paint on surfaces or objects to save time over using brush and roller. That’s how I intended to use this spray gun. However, due to my inexperience and the intimidating instructions, I was hesitant in getting started, which caused me to postpone a few projects that I have now stacking up. Well, I finally got everything I thought I needed, and got started, or at least trying my new-found talent on useless objects or unobtrusive surfaces, if the incessant Florida rain holds back a day. What you’ll need is a compressor (my 8 gal worked fine), in-line air filter, paint strainer cups, a 1 pt. measuring cup, paint thinner, water (to thin the water-based paint), mixing sticks, a GOOD N95 approved respirator, eye protection, and rags. I first cleaned the gun with paint thinner as recommended in the instructions. I then cleaned the gun with rags to remove the thinner residue. I poured about 10 oz. of latex paint/primer into the plastic measuring cup and added about 2 oz. of water. Mixed the water and paint. I kind of guessed on the water/paint ratio. Then put a paint filter over the mouth of the sprayer can and poured the pain into the strainer. I found this step to be essential every time I mixed and added paint to the sprayer cup, if you don’t the sprayer nozzle WILL clog. The rest was very straight forward considering I already had some experience with applying paint with a spray gun. Was the result perfect? No. But I sprayed the sides of shed that had rust stains and patchy paint surfaces. I figured any result was better that the original surface. Preparation took a while and so did the cleanup, but I was very satisfied with the results. And it was much quicker than using a roller and brushes.

I am very impressed with the quality of materials and workmanship on this gun. All parts are metal, and virtually everything on it can easily be disassembled for cleaning and maintenance. It has a general purpose, fully adjustable spray head. The air inlet takes a 1/4" fitting, but it comes with a nipple pre-installed if you wish to use a 3/8" fitting. Admittedly, the one quart canister will go quickly on larger projects, but I had no problem refilling it and moving on. It would be a little small to do a whole house, unless you are willing to work with the smaller capacity. Much more affordable way to go for homeowners that have some painting to do around the house, but do not want to invest in a large sprayer.

I was disappointed with this product because I believed it to be something I could use as a DIYer. The name General Purpose Spray Gun is misleading. This spray gun is an accessory to a compressor, and can not be used without it. The compressor is priced between $100 AND $300 at Home Depot. You will also need a siphon tool, and some other gadgets I have no idea about how to use. Perhaps for a professional painter this canister is great, but not for a regular Jane or Joe like me.
