The Carlon Zip Box Blue 1-Gang 17 cu. in. Shallow Old Work box is designed to work with non-metallic sheathed cable in accordance with article 314 of the NEC. Great for light commercial and residential applications, the box is crafted with non-conductive PVC for durability and is fire rated and UL Listed to help ensure safety.

For use in remodel applications
Side panel allows for extra wiring room and accommodates shallow walls
Mounting ears and swing clamps provide versatile installation options

Q:is there a normal depth or at least larger version of this box? i'm not happy with the box crowding from alumiconns. i think this would be a better option with the connectors tucked away to the side in their own space.

A: You can make it work with 3/4" ply (possibly flip the wings around to give yourself a little extra) but 1" is pushing it.

A: Used this box in a 2X4 interior wall with 3/4" drywall. Space between ears (flights) and body of the box allows for this type of installation.

A: The side cavity is set back 1/2 inch from the face. This will box will not work on 3/4 or 1 inch material.

A: Yes, if you loosen the screws on the "ears" you can install on 1" plywood.

A: It's made to tuck behind drywall, which is typically 1/2"-5/8". Don't despair, you can use longer screws or the extender (also sold at HD,) to mount the switch flush with the surface.

I added an outlet in an existing wall that turned...

I added an outlet in an existing wall that turned out to be thinner than normal so I had to use a thinner box but still needed room to fit the wires and outlet. This box provided the needed space. Since it is plastic, it didn’t need to be grounded either. A perfect solution for my situation.
