Q:will this box hold a14 lb chandelier

Answer This Question

A:  I would use a ceiling fan metal box to hang a heavy chandelier.

by|Nov 27, 2022

A:  I am not sure.  It is only held up by the 2 nails.  I would suggest a ceiling fan box with stronger mounts, this way you could hang whatever you want.

    by|Nov 27, 2022

A:  I would never use a plastic ceiling box to hold up a ceiling fan, and only trust a metal ceiling box, that is firmly secured to the house structure. If you have a plastic ceiling box in this location, then you should replace it with a (Home depot) Internet # 204845572 Model# 0110000. I believe that this could be an unsafe situation otherwise.

        Answer This Question

A:  You just need a screw slightly larger than the whole. They will creat their own threads as you insert them.

          Answer This Question

A:  This is for new work. If you have existing sheet rock then get an old work box with tabs and drill a 4" hole. You may need to cut the rock away a little bit to get the tabs in. This type of box will not hold a ceiling fan.

does not stand up to use
I installed this work box for a wall light. When I came back to install the light fixture onto the work box, the box was loose and I find one of the nail flanges had broken off. Lucky for me the back side of the wall had not been taped yet so I didn’t have to demo the drywall. I purchased a new box and the nail flange broke again. Surely they understand the nail is going to be hammered into place. I screwed directly through the inside of the box into the stud to secure it. I installed the wall light and 5 months later I see the fixture hanging at a odd angle. On inspection I find both the box screw mounts have broken off. I have never had this issue with plastic outlet boxes before. I would not use this manufacture’s product if this is the material quality to be expected.

            Good size, quite sturdy.
This box is a little deeper than I usually see for a round fixture box, providing lots of room for wire nuts, a ground wire crimp sleeve, and several conductors coming in and going out. Nailing to an exposed ceiling joist was very easy, and the lip on one side of the box combined with the two pre-inserted nails to produce a very solid and stable place to make the connections. Mounting the fixture to the box was simple, except the cheap plastic fixture I chose broke in 3 places as I tightened the mounting screws. Not this box's fault. I am going to go back to a porcelain fixture for this situation.
