Yes, as long as you have a horizonal 1 1/2 inch thick board to attach the metal adjustable bracket to!

To remove and replace the box - Can you screw it all the way out?

Asked by GBcoach June 15, 2020

Answer

Yes, once the bracket is attached (4 screws or nails) you can remove and replace the box by turning the screw . I love these for working with a plaster or tiled wall. When the thickness is finally determined, a quick adjustment and your device and faceplate are perfect.

If you're asking a question, the answer is "No." I have never encountered a device that didn't fit fine. Dimmers, GFCI's, even motion detecting switches all fit without a problem.

Is this the box product I would use for an outside wall outlet or switch?

You wouldn't if it was old work... You would cut a box in... I use those boxes specifically for new kitchens... They are able to be adjusted to the perfect depth of back splash...

Sheetrock screws work very nicely. The head settles into the hole low enough to not effect the sheet rock over it.

This is an outlet or a switch box and is not meant for hanging anything like a wall light. If you intend to hang a wall sconce, you want to use another type of box.

Why it isn't made with the circular knockouts for used with armoured cables or conduit?

Asked by SHAWN June 22, 2018

I'm not an engineer, but I would have to assume that the plastic box would tear out with the occasional stress some MC and conduit installations could create. Yes, at times electricians can try to "force" installations, and the metal box will hold when plastic can't.

Can the bracket be flipped to mount from behind?

Asked by ESC March 3, 2018

Yes, the support bracket can be turned around for a backward installation. The adjusting screw will work. But I would be interested in, Why? Have you run into a need for this kind of install? The next question is, will the Electrical Inspector pass it?

can i use bx cable with these Non -Metallic Wall box ?

Asked by dave January 1, 2018

Answers

I would not advise it -- not sure you even can per code. For bx cable, plan to use steel boxes with the proper anti-short bushings and the proper clamps. That way the bx is grounded when you ground the box. If you don't understand that, then please get an electrician or at least learn more about it before you do it yourself. Electrical work can be tricky, and doing it right is all about safety for you and your family.

These are in my opinion a great trade of cost for ease of installation. You do not need to worry about mounting your box at the proper depth as it both mounts to the face of the stud and it is depth adjustable after the fact to easily make it flush with up to a couple layers of 5/8" drywall. These are also nice for those odd occasions when you do not know exactly how thick your wall is going to be.

Wobbly
I just installed one of these in kitchen and I can see before I have even closed up that it is WOBBLY and is not going to work over time. I'm Googling for an alternative right now. I can't believe all the 5 Stars these boxes are getting. Do not recommend. Not much use if your box lines up neatly with drywall if it also wiggles every time you insert or pull out a plug!

Adjuster screw placement
While I am a fan of the Carlon adjustable boxes, my last purchase was the cantex brand. Not a fan of the cantex. Shame on Home Depot! The adjuster screw for the cantex box is more on the outside of the box. The carlon is closer to being just inside the box. The carlon is less likely to have that screw covered up by wall material like tile.
