Questions & Answers

The runway for the clamp is just a hair short of being able to handle a standard drywall + osb thickness, is there a version of this product that could handle this thickness?

1 Answer |
Answer This Question

If you have access to a stud, consider using part number B249B. This box works for both new and old work applications. If you remove the side mounting tab, you gain additional flexibility by fastening the box directly to the stud with screws.

How do I secure a blank cover plate to this box? The only screw holes that line up are the ones used by the box’s clamps, but even those results in the cover being cockeyed.

              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

You have to purchase a two gang blank cover. And the holes for the cover will line up with the holes for the devices on the box.

                  Works as it should
The Carlon 2-Gang 25 cu. in. Electrical PVC Old Work Electrical Switch and Outlet Box (B225R-UPC) works just as expected. It’s sturdy, lightweight, and easy to install. The PVC material feels durable and holds up well during use. It provides plenty of room inside for wiring, which makes the job smoother and less cramped compared to smaller boxes. The clamps hold everything securely in place. Overall, it’s a reliable product that does exactly what it’s supposed to without any issues.

                    Updating my 1940's home
I decided to add some outlets and light switches. These old work Carlon boxes were the boxes I decided on. I had to use these because my old home has 1/2 drywall" with about 5/8" plaster on top. The ability to position the fasteners at the length/ depth needed was a simple but genius solution. Plenty of room to work with to move wire in place.

I needed to move a pair of light switches a few inches as we were tiling a wall and they would have been halfway on the tile and halfway off. It was a relatively easy job - hardest part was trying to release the wires from the switches (you need a tiny screw driver to poke through the hole that releases the grip on the wires, only one I could find small enough for intended for eye glasses). I deliberately cut the hole in the wall a little small and then trimmed with a knife so the box fitted snugly and then mechanism to clamp it to the drywall worked perfectly first time of trying.
