Can this be used for exterior walls?

This box is suitable for use on exterior walls as long as it is attached to a stud inside and if local codes allow. It cannot be surface mounted outside. Before using please check local codes to ensure there are no restrictions on the types of boxes your can use in your area.

You would have to make your own knock out either on the back of the box or the side. The existing hole/clamp is only for romex or SO cord. You can't really use this box with the pvc since it's adjustable and the pvc would restrict movement. Use a deep 4" square metal box with a bracket. These boxes are primarily for use in bathrooms and kitchens where you have variable thickness in the backsplash or and tile for example.

Is there a coverplate for this box when used for a range receptical?

We do not have a cover plate in our line that will fit this application. Might want to check another vendor such as Pass & Seymour that has covers for this application - SKU 202313808.

This is a good product, being able to adjust to whatever thickness the tile is. Arlington Industries has one with no back so you don't have to disconnect/reconnect the outlet, even better as it slips over the receptacle and wiring. The back could be cut out of this one.... Out of the box:)

(What's this)
This product is solid, well-made, and stands out over similar 2-gang electrical boxes for its robust construction, versatility and number of cable holes. There is a breakout for a range wire with a screw-down clamp inside the box, and six additional ports for Romex. The clamps are effective without being too stiff. The metal bracket provides the ability to adjust the mounting depth of the box and makes it easy to attach to a single stud using two nails through the 'wings' of the bracket. Mounting against a doubled stud requires removal of the hooks that would normally catch the far edge of the stud. The bracket then needs to be attached to the face of the stud. I chose to use four screws for a very sturdy installation. The adjustment screw housing juts into the box sufficiently to interfere with installation of a bulky item such as certain timers on the same side of the box.

These are my go-to boxes for new construction. They come in singles, doubles and triples. They are easier to install than the ones with nails, and should you ever need to snake a wire after construction is done you can screw the box right out of the wall and get you hand into the wall cavity. On our exterior walls we place an inch of foam board on the inside of all our these exterior walls (using one-inch spacers along door and window openings so there's solid wood to attach the sheetrock.) One single stud walls these can be screwed right on the stud with no modification. The tab that extends out the side has two points on it that let it grip the studs. On double studs we just bend the points out so they go flat against the second stud. Once firmly attached with two screws into the face of the stud and two into the side of the stud, the screw adjustment lets you move the box in and out. When installing the foam sheets, we tuck the wires inside, extend the box about a quarter inch past the stud, and press the foam into position against the wall. Pushing where the box is leaves a slight indentation that lets you know where to cut the foam. When installing the sheetrock, use the same technique by slightly extending the box and marking the edges with chalk. Punch an awl through the sheetrock from the back to mark the four corners, then cut it from the front for a clean edge.

Where have you been all my life
When redoing a room, I took it down to the studs. I wanted to add some extra insulation in the form of foam board, then drywall overtop of that. I wasn't quite sure what depth to set the outlets to since I hadn't decided in what thickness of foam board to use, but i wanted to get all of the electrical work completed. Then I discovered these guys. With the setscrew depth adjustment capability they accommodate a wide range of depths and maintain a surprising rigidity in doing so. While a little more expensive than the other options, the installation flexibility it provides is worth the cost.
