Product Overview

The Champion Power Equipment 100624 9-Ton Horizontal Gas Log Splitter is small on size but big on power. If you're looking for a quick, dependable and portable solution for log splitting, this is the unit for you. Depend on the powerful Champion 79cc single-cylinder OHV engine, which features a cast-iron sleeve, a 0.3 Gal. fuel tank, 0.4 qt. oil capacity (recommended 10W-30) and a low-oil shutoff. The low-profile design makes it easier to load a large log onto the splitting beam and the integrated log cradle keeps the log safely in position. This small but mighty machine handles logs up to 19 in. L, weighing up to 50 lbs. 9-tons of splitting capacity deliver the power. The hydraulic oil system has a 1.5 Gal. oil capacity and operates at 3 GPM to power through tough logs. The skewed wedge increases splitting efficiency, plus it has a 20-second cycle time and auto-return valve, capable of 180 cycles per hour. The 2-stage gear pump adjusts flow and pressure by delivering high flow/low pressure when there is no resistance and low flow/high pressure when cutting through a log to increase productivity. This log splitter fits easily in any truck bed and has a handle and 10 in. never-flat tires. Assembly and setup are hassle free. This log splitter is EPA certified and CARB compliant. Buy with confidence - our reliable support and network of service centers will back your purchase up with a 2-year limited warranty and free lifetime technical support.

    Weak welds
This was a nice machine until I'm splitting some and the whole side of guide rail breaks free off the unit. As I investigate what happen ,I see the weld had penatration onto the support beam. I have had the unit for a couple of years now.

        Decent 27 Ton log splitter
I bought the 27 ton Champion log splitter in October. It came in a box mounted on a pallet. Assembly was straight forward. The instructions were easy to follow but not necessary. Basic hand tools was all that was needed. Assembly took 3 evenings - about 1 hr. each night. I've used it 4 time and it started on the first pull every time. The cycle time is decent and the auto stop on the auto return is a nice feature. Every now and then I have to clear debris out of the channel. 18" pople is not a problem, maple made it kicked into low. The one issue that really bothered me is the supplied return hose is about 6" short and therefore puts undue stress where the hose attaches to the pump. I ended up ordering a longer after market hose. The unit should also have a protector bar over the filter. It would be easy for a log to fall and bust it off. Correct these 2 issues and I will add the 5th star. Overall I am satisfied and would but it again.

Great splitter. It’s a fast cycle time. This things light enough to move around easily but robust enough to tow around. As for splitting, it split huge 48” in diameter 18” thick rounds of green silver maple with no problem. Great purchase.

Some Assembly Required - so bring your tool kit
As a number of people have commented, the assembly of the Champion 34 Ton Log Splitter was very poorly done. I am not sure if HD does the assembly, Champion, or a 3rd part, but it leaves much to be desired, and a lot for the customer to do. If you purchase one of these, check the following before taking delivery: Are the wheels properly installed, cotter pin on the retaining nut, wheels spin smoothly but do not slide in/out of the axel, are all the bolts properly tightened (take a tool kit with 2 cresent wrenchs capable of 1.5 inch nut) the unit I purchased had a dozen lose fasteners including one wheel that probably would not have made the 30 mile trip home. Once I got home I discovered a few more issues including, the high pressure line would kink when spliter in vertical position, the hydrolic oil resivor was low and I had to add 4 gallons to bring it up to operation level. While this might discourage you from purchasing this product, I need to give credit wher it is due. When I talked with the store manager she arainged for one of the tool rental clerks, Carl, to give me a hand addressing the assembly issues. Carl is a retired automotive worker and he really knows his stuff. He worked with me until all of the issues I identified were addressed and made sure I was happy with the final results. As for the splitter itself I am very happy with it, though I think Champion would do well to make sure their products are assembled correctly.

              This thing chops!
This log splitter is awesome, it crushes through anything you put through it with ease. I was on the fence between renting one for a few days or buying one and I am glad I chose to buy!

                wedge broke
I went to home depot after carefully reading many reviews and watching youtube videos about this splitter. Had a few concerns before buying. So i asked the associate to fire it up to verify it worked properly. Was told store policy is they cant put gas in any engine and start it. Not happy. He told me i could return it if it wasnt working properly. So i took it home fired it up and split some logs. Worked great but after 3rd log( hard maple) the wedge chipped a 1.5” piece off the top cutting edge. I contacted champion and after being on hold for an hour they are sending a new one. In the meantime i inspect machine and the hose clamps on return lines are loose and hose slmost came off. One fender is missing a bolt and the filler plug was slso loose. Seems like a good machine but the assemblers at the depot need to pay more attention to assembly. Do yourself a favor and check every bolt and hose before using. And i also got the manual for a 34 ton splitter but i bought a 27 ton. Somehow they got switched probaly by the people doing the assembly.

                  Powerful Log Splitter
This is a great splitter. I have been using it for a year and am not able to find any log that it will not split. It is very heavy for one person to move alone. Negatives are no tongue jack, just a simple post with a holes and a pin, which makes hitching to tractor difficult as the excessive tongue weight. Also it should come with a 4 Way cutter it for sure could use it. It drips hydraulic fluid. I don’t really like the operating valve, it takes quite a lot of force to move it from the resting position of the handle. The detent is very hard to come off of and after a couple of hours of splitting it gets a little tiring and painful to slam your hand against the handle to get it to break loose on every split.
