can you use acrylic concrete sealers in this sprayer

Asked by Tod September 11, 2020
1
Answer

Hi, we do not recommend the 63985 4 Gal. Rechargeable 20-Volt Battery Powered Backpack Sprayer for use with concrete sealers. Sealers may cause the seals to degrade as well as clogging. We do offer sprayers that are specifically designed for sealers. If you give Chapin Customer Service a call at 800-444-3140 and have the SDS for the chemical being used available, they will assist you by recommending a sprayer that will best suit your needs. Thank you for your question and for your business, we appreciate it.

Will the warranty be voided if I use 50/50 bleach-water?

Asked by Jim September 1, 2019

Answers

Hi, we do not recommend the 63985 4 Gal rechargeable 20-Volt Lithium-Ion Battery Powered Backpack Sprayer for use with Bleach as it will degrade the seals rapidly. This would not be covered under the warranty as it would be a chemical attack not a manufacturer defect. We do offer sprayers that are designed for Bleach such as model #20075 a 1 gallon and model # 61575 a 4 gallon backpack sprayer. If we can help with any further questions, please feel free to call our Technical Customer Service Team at 800-444-3140. Thank you for your question and for your business, we appreciate it.

can I purchase a second backup battery separately?

Asked by Lenny July 8, 2019
2
Answers

Yup, they are regular Black & Decker 20-volt lithium batteries. Can be bought just about anywhere. We have some B&D portable tools w/20v batteries too, so we have plenty. I will tell you the 20v battery lasts easily 4 hours, so unless you use it continually for longer than that, a second battery isn’t really necessary. I used it on our backyard & wooded area to spray a vinegar & soap concoction I mixed up for weeds & little varmints for almost 5 hours straight & it worked perfectly. No need to recharge! They sell a newer 24v version, but I’d stick with the 20v unit while they are still available. I don’t believe the 24v units last as long as the 20v setup, plus I believe the 20v batteries are cheaper.

How much does this weigh before chemicals?

It weighs almost ‘nothing’ when empty. Filled with 4 gallons of H2O, it’s a bit of a different story, unless you ‘empty’ it fast!

what is the difference between this sprayer which is $181. and the $161 one? Thanks.

Never use a corrosive liquid in a pump of any kind unless specially made for a product like clutch Bleach or you understand it will significantly reduce the life expectancy.

I read review where this product leaked from where the battery is located. I assumed since the review were older that this problem would have been resolved. It has NOT! I cannot believe after all this time Chapin has not fixed this problem. I kept hearing the pump make short sounds thinking that since it was the first time I used it, it was just getting warmed up. But when I finished I noticed it leaking from where the hose enters the unit. The battery as all wet, as was my shirt and paints. I cannot recommend this product since it appears Chapin does not care to resolve a problem brought to their attention by other users.

I purchased for DIY yard work. My first use was very positive and it was easy to use. I have noticed some reviews about the battery not being powerful enough so I will definitely be making a follow up review. So far so good.

The world best sprayer to spray more than 10,000 sqft
This is the way to go when you spray large area. It runs smooth and is very quiet. I was able to spray week killer on my 20,000 sqft yard in about 30 minutes with the red flat nozzle(refer the stock photos). The Black & Decker Li-Ion battery is excellent. It's compatible with my hand drill. I should have purchased years ago. This is a must have for any home owner.

Worked at first but after 6 uses, battery died, after replacement sprayer leaks
This sprayer is junk. The battery died, from looking out on the web one person said it was because the batter was left into the device over night. I did that as I had 1/2 tank of product left and another lawn to do the next morning. Another person had a battery that got round-up in it as the tank leaks. Once I replaced the battery for $69, now my tank is leaking right above the battery. Save your money for a better unit.

Lid leaks contents down my back.
Purchased this backpack a couple months ago after trying to decide between three or four of the popular brands. The unit sprays great just as advertised. My only issue is that the lid will NOT seal no matter how loose or tight you screw it on. I have blue dye, herbicide, fertilizer, or whatever I have mixed up all down my back. Would be awesome if Chapin would reach out to help me cure this issue as I just can't continue to have chemicals drenching my shirt, back and pants. Thank you.

One of the best purchases I ever made
I bought this about 3 years ago to replace my hand pump backpack sprayer. It was working fine but I was tired of pumping it by hand for long periods. I immediately loved this. Yesterday it quit pumping. It seemed like either it wasn't getting power or the pump went bad. I called customer support and Linn returned my call. He walked me through all the things that could be causing the problem. When I did these things, Found that one of the filters was clogged, causing the switch to think there was enough pressure already. Once I cleaned the filters, it worked great again. From now on, I will never put it away without running clear water through it, disasembling and cleaning the filters. Love this thing and wouldn't want to be without it.

Best Chapin Sprayer yet!
I have only used this sprayer twice, but it is by far that best Chapin sprayer I have purchased to date. The wide fill mouth makes it easy to fill without spilling. The battery connection on the bottom of the unit is easy to take out to charge and install. Four gallon capacity is a bit much weight for my old frame, but the unit sits nicely on my side by side seat to spray while riding. Not needing to pump the tank for pressure is its biggest asset. I love this sprayer and would quickly recommend that it is worth the expense.

Complete junk
I have purchased three of these. The first one works as intended. The last two I purchased (July 2020) are complete junk. Both sprayers leaked. The first sprayer I tested only with water. It leaked where the bolt couples the motor and battery housing to the bottom of the sprayer. The water poured out. I tried tightening the allen head bolt but to no avail. I returned this sprayer for a replacement of exactly the same make and model. I put several inches of water in the new sprayer to see if it too would leak. It appeared ok at first. I filled the sprayer with water and weed killer. I hoist it onto my back and off I go. I immediately feel the back of my right leg getting wet. I take the sprayer off and it's leaking where the battery connects to the sprayer. I remove the battery and watch the spray pour out. Wearing roundup spray is not a favorite pastime of mine. DO NOT purchase this sprayer. As I said, the very first one I purchased a year before these last two sprayers is fine. It works very well. But I would never buy another. Quality is very poor. I will be returning this sprayer as well. I fully understand that there can be production issues. But TWO sprayers in a row?
