Can I buy just the grates?
While Home Depot does not have the cook grates available, they are available on the Char-Griller website. The cook grates for this grill are part 100086. https://www.chargriller.com/

This may be a dumb question, can you use wood chips instead of charcoal?

Do the grates need to be seasoned like a cast iron skillet?
Beverly, Thank you for the question. Yes, please season the cast iron cooking grates. We recommend vegetable oil, grapeseed oil, or bacon fat. After the grates are coated, you can place them in a 400-degree oven for an hour or on a 400-degree grill for 40 minutes. After time is up, let the grates cool down naturally.
