A: not sure what you mean by damaging the propane side. you can put charcoal on the propane side, but the charcoal ash will drop down as it burns
A: Charcoal should only be used in the main charcoal side or the side fire box. Using charcoal on the gas side could cause damage to the grill.
A: The lids attach by sliding into the hinges welded to the body and then attaching the screw piece on the end that holds them in place.
