Does the heat come out of the front? Would assume so if it can be built into wall as it states in the description.

Yes it comes out of the front at the top like the pic....however there are air intakes on the top of the unit that shouldn't be blocked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Relaxing and realistic electric fireplace I don’t have a real fireplace, but this 48” Helen electric fireplace is a great alternative and close to the real thing. I put this up in our living room and it makes a nice focal point. It’s very sleek and doesn’t stick out much and has a long cord for options which is nice. It gets so warm, and heats up quickly. The whole piece stays cool to the touch. The only part that gets hot is where the long narrow vent runs along the top front. The lights are very relaxing and there are multiple variations to choose from which you can do with the remote or the buttons on the fireplace. I like the led screen that lights up to show me when I change something like temp, light setting, flame height, etc. I love that it has a timer I can set and it will turn off for me. I even use it for ambience without the heat to enjoy the pretty flames over the log. I needed help hanging it because it’s at least 40 lbs., but putting it together was easy and fairly quick. It has very real looking flames that put other "fake" ones to shame. The remote is great and responsive. This fireplace heats up my basement room pretty well in short amount of time. The room is about 11'x15' where I have this mounted. The unit itself is cool to touch when ON. you'll hear a minor noise when it's running, as with any other electric heaters with fan. It is very modern looking and slick. It doesn't stick out much from the wall when mounted. It's very easy to mount as well. The timer is very well thought out feature of this. so don't have to worry about remembering to turn it off. Cord is long enough to plug. Overall it works well and looks very elegant. I love how you can set a timer up to 9 hrs. You can also change the settings on the logs and the Backround . . Comes with a remote which also includes the batteries . It can provide heat up to 400 square feet, or you can use it without heat to add decor to your room. The flames are relaxing to look at with their blue and amber colors.
