My shelving was installed in 1992, all is 1/4 inch diameter for the clip to hook/ mount to. Model 7546 qty. 12, 1 pack is too small and will not work. I am going to ACE Hardware, Forget HD they only keep up to date with new and not the old style.

Can I use a screw in place of the nail (pin) for these plastic shelf clips ?

Regardless of what ClosetMaid recommends, I have one shelf that pulled out from the drywall under only modest load. I have another that broke the plastic wall clips. Never trust plastic. Never trust drywall anchors. Drywall is weak and unreliable. Even the ones that rely on a T joint behind the drywall are likely to distort the drywall over time under load. If you want to hold up a couple of teddy bears, those should do. If you want a shelf to hold up your stuff reliably without everything crashing to the ground one day, then use screws into the studs and I'd recommend a proper pilot hole (minor diameter of the screws, just as deep as the screw) so as not to split the stud and with a good inch of wood screw embedded into the stud. I'd recommend clips as in: https://www.homedepot.com/p/ClosetMaid-2-in-Shelf-Clips-for-SuperSlide-Shelving-12-Pack-7561/100191188 Forget the drywall anchors. Throw them away. Use >= 2 inch screws to secure the clips. Or good thick eye screws with the ends of the eyes cut with a Dremel so that the wall-side horizontal rods can be slipped into the eyes, if you're serious about your shelves doing the job shelves should do.

I'm looking into putting a 96" shelf in a closet in an old house with plaster walls. I know this ...

Hello. You can use the same installation method as drywall. Thank you for your inquiry.

I have one back wall clip that falls on a metal stud, what can I use instead? These won't go into the wall.

you can cut the back off of the clip and use a screw self tapping would be best.

what is the load capacity?

Asked by cvs September 24, 2015

Answer

The weight capacity is highly dependent on the installation itself, which we cannot control. However, below is a summary of recommended safe weight loads when the load is evenly distributed across the shelf and when the shelving is installed per the manufacturer’s instructions/specifications with ClosetMaid branded installation hardware. For Fixed Mount Installation Method using ClosetMaid support poles, wall clips and end brackets: it will vary depending on the type of shelving you are using but can range between 25lbs to 35 lbs per linear foot.

How are the clips anchored to the drywall, what is the purpose of the nails.

The nails spreads the wings and makes them bind against the back of the dry wall.

I can't find Closetmaid wall clips to replace the broken ones supporting my closet shelf. Has the circumference of the wire clips changed since 1994?

I bought this package to hang a 4-Shelf All Purpose Storage Rack Organizer from the Home Depot in Brewster, NY. I made the 4 holes, inserted the clips and I started putting the pin in. The pin was very hard to insert. I put more pressure but I could only get it half way. I tried harder and I noticed that the clip is now partially in the drywall. I removed the pin and clip with a lot of difficulty and found I left a nice rectangle indentation in the wall. Now I had to patch the wall. I tried to insert the pin in the clip outside the wall and it was very hard. I had to use pliers to get it in and out. I look at another clip and that is when I notice that it was slightly different than the other. I tried to push the pin and it slipped in easier. There are 2 groups of pins in the package. One has 3 harder plastic, slightly grayish, with a round hole and more defined side edges which are about impossible to put the pin in. The other has 4 softer plastic, white, with an oval center hole and less defined side edges which are easier to slide in the pin. Therefore, I was only able to use 4 of the 7 clips and I had to fix the drywall. NOT HAPPY!!!

What a joke! They went in somewhat easy but it's next to impossible to clip the shelf into the hook. I gave up on this garbage and bought a rail system.

Horrible — can't get the shelf to snap in
Horrible system — easy to hit the plastic with a hammer while trying to nail it in, making the clip useless. Even without mangling the clip it's near-impossible to get the wire shelf to snap into place. What a disaster.

Its a shame that closet maid has cheapened it's product...
Its a shame that closet maid has cheapened it's product so much. In the past ,you could buy clips with screws and anchors enabling you to put some clips directly into wall studs. They also greatly cheapened the metal shelf mounting brackets that used to be bolted through the shelf , not put on under a single shelf wire. Really crummy ! Disappointed !
