Questions & Answers

do the brackets come in nickel

do the brackets come in nickel
Asked by: Marushka
No, these brackets are made in a tough, well designed plastic. I don't recall seeing them in any color but white, but brown, black or grey would be possible. I've only ever used the white shelves, and so my attention to the available colors has been kind of limited. Check the manufacturer's web site.

Screws vs pins?

The description for these side wall brackets says 4x1" screws are provided to secure the brackets to the wall, but instead mine came with pins. Furthermore, the head of each pin is small enough to pass through the hole in the bracket. I don't understand how is this supposed to secure the bracket to the wall. At best, the bracket will be resting on the protruding pin, at worst the pin will slip through the hole in the bracket.
Asked by: Craig
I had similar pins which when hammered expanded an anchor. Worked fine.

Through the drywall. If mounting in a stud, don't use an anchor and just sink the screw in

Hi, when installing the bracket, should the anchors go through the two holes on bracket? Or should the anchor be fixed into wall first and then nail the bracket to the anchor? The nails look too small though in the second scenario and don't think it could fix the bracket. Thanks a lot.
Asked by: Rose
Anchors should be fixed to the wall first.

I don't know how Closet Maid came up with the idea to use these pins instead of screws. I just installed 10 ventilated shelves and the pins back out after hanging clothes. I actually heard a pin drop in the middle of the night. Also, the pin head is smaller than the holes on the brackets, which allows the brackets to fall off. I had also used wall clips and shelf brackets and pins still backed out. I had to redo all 10 shelves with screws. I have to buy screws because the brackets come with these pins. Added expense. Same with the wall clips, although I did find some that had screws. Closet Maid had a good product before incorporating these pins. Very poor design!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Brackets themselves are okay, but use your own anchors and screws Poorly designed. The holes are too big to keep the supplied pins from punching through the holes (the support brackets for the superslide bar don't have this problem). Hard to drive the pins flush because of the depth of the recessed areas around the holes relative to the thickness of the pin heads. The drywall anchors don't hold much weight because they are too short and too smooth to properly grip inside the drywall. The brackets themselves have an odd horseshoe shape in that the opening is more narrow than the rest of the bracket, so you must be precise when locating the brackets.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed with anchors and pins Installed exactly like directions said and after a few weeks the pins started pulling out of the anchors. Once the pins pulled out the brackets were very loose and the shelf sagged. After about 2 months of pushing the pins back in I finally went to Home Depot and bought new metal anchors with screws. Once I pulled out all the old anchors and installed the new metal ones with screws, I haven't had a problem.

There is no way they can work with this product. They go straight through the piece they are intended to hold up. You MUST buy screws for this.

THEY'RE MUCH NEEDED FOR INSTALLING WIRE SHELVING BUT THE ANCHORS AND NAILS PROVIDED ARE POOR QUALITY. BUY DIFFERENT ANCHORS AND SCREWS!! WE TRIED USING WHAT THEY PROVIDED AND EACH TIME MADE GIANT HOLES AND UN-STURDY SHELVES BUT ONCE WE USED OUR OWN ANCHORS AND SCREWS, IT WORKED PERFECTLY. CLOSET MAID SHOULD CONSIDER CHANGING OUT THE HARDWARE PROVIDED WITH THESE WALL BRACKETS.

It shows that this is for wire shelving and it looks standard until you get it home. My shelves are 1/12" inch deep and these are 2 inches deep, so the shelf has nowhere to rest or be secure. Bad packaging on the part of the manufacturer, not to indicate the size or depth of the bracket or the size of the shelf it's good for!

It works, but doesn't look professional. The nails are useless, the go all the way through the hole in the bracket, and it falls off the wall. Had to drive back to the store to buy more screws to make this work.
