How many Watts? Does the tip transmit electricity to the parts being soldered?

Asked by: Joesolder
The unit operates on 4 "AA" batteries, but per info on Cold Heat's website ( www.coldheat.com ) : "The Soldering Pen delivers approximately 25W of AC-equivalent power. It is intended for hobby or light professional use in electrical projects with small and medium-sized components, such as 18-24 AWG wires, small jewelry repairs, and larger printed circuit boards and components..." Regarding "Does the tip transmit electricity to the parts?..." : One response/review on Amazon (written by someone who said they were an electronics technician) said that the tip DID transmit electricity from the batteries, and claimed it damaged/ruined several other components on that board they were soldering on... BUT/HOWEVER!! ... An electrical design engineer commented/directly responded back to this post/review, saying that although he didn't own/wasn't personally familiar with this Cold Heat soldering product, he was "puzzled" how this battery-operated, low-voltage soldering unit could have damaged.... ", (which, don't know about you but, to ME, "puzzled' politely' translates to "I HIGHLY doubt it/don't THINK so, pal!) LOL! -PS/FYI... I received one of these ColdHeat from my wife as a gift a few years back, have only had intermittent (on-again/off-again) luck/success using it (but I DO hafta admit that, although I'm pretty handy with a LOT of things, I definitely SUCK when it comes to soldering, no matter what type of soldering tool I've ever used, LOL!! One final comment/heads up to y'all that puzzles ME... I went to Cold Heat's very own company website, RIGHT before posting this, to check on/order the "NEWER/IMPROVED ceramic soldering tip"... It says "OUT OF STOCK" !! Go figure/kinda worries ME ...
