Questions & Answers

Two questions regarding the 3/4 maple plywood: If I get a custom cut and have 4" removed lengthwise will the cut portion come with the shipment? Can tabletop epoxy be applied to the surface or will it delaminate?

Answer This Question

Hi, Yes we do send the drops of the panel. I would check on the epoxy with a local home depot member. They will know more for that application!

Is the Europly pre-finished like the Purebond? There is no mention of pre-finish in the description. I will be painting both top and bottom surfaces so is pre-finished even needed? (I am considering Europly over Purebond because I may not edge-band.)

    Answer This Question

Hello, The europly is not prefinished. If you plan to paint the surface, you do not need to go with a prefinished option.

Does CFP make the single free custom cuts that are offered or are they made by a third party? Are crosscuts that are ordered with the 2' x 8' panels made with fine-tooth crosscut blades that produce clean cuts?
      ByJan 10, 2024
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Hi, These custom cuts are made by CFP! We process all orders and custom cuts the very next day after being ordered. The cuts are made with our industrial saw beams. If you have more questions, you can reach me at alec.neugent@cfpwood.com.

I read that the core material is Russian birch. Are either the manufactured cores or completely finished maple panel imported from Russia?

Hi, No, our plywood is not from Russia. We do not import anything from Russia. This specific product is from Poland. If you have more questions, please reach out to alec.neugent@cfpwood.com.

Can this be used as a 18 inch depth mantel top. I plan to trim the edge with a 1 inch board and use a a 1x6 with crown molding to dress the 3 sides up. All will be stained.

Hi can the piece be cut into diagonals, or curved shapes. Wanting to build a corner desk? Ideally would love to have it curved at the front for ergonomic fit? Please advise??

            Answer This Question

Hi, No, we are not able to make diagonal cuts on our wood due to our industrial saw beam. You could talk with some people at Home Depot and they could probably recommend a saw to make the cuts you are wanting!

For the 2 x 8 ft size, how would I specify that I would like it to be cut in half lengthwise so that each piece would be equal width?

              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Hi, For this 2x8 panel to be cut in half, I would enter in the CTS form "12x48". I will say with it being cut in half, the saw kerf will take off about 3/16 of one side due to the saw blade. If you would like both sides even, in the special instructions section, enter " spread the cut to make both sides even" that way you will be good to go. I would also mention that you would just like the piece cut in half in the special instructions section as well. If you have more questions, you can reach me at alec.neugent@cfpwood.com.

When I order a custom cut, will the dimensions be exact or account for the blade used? For example, if I order a 15x30 cut, will it be that exactly or will it be 14 7/8 x 29 7/8?

                Answer This Question

Hi, If you are planning on using a 2 x 8 for 15x30, you shouldn't have to worry about what the blade will account for. If you do enter a certain cut that the blade will affect, it should notify you while entering those cuts. Thanks.

Top quality alternative to Baltic Birch
First time ordering. Voidless, lots of plys, good quality veneer. My only gripe was that the veneer is pretty thin, so you could sand through it pretty easily. Additionally, there really wasn't any corner protectors inside teh shipping box, although none of the corners was damaged too much and I was able to cut a sliver off anyway, but take note if you need every 1/8" of the dimensions. Will be buying again.

I have ordered twice. Both times, the order arrives on time, and most importantly, the custom cuts are accurate, fine and smooth! This piece of wood is pretty solid, much more solid than other similar plywood in the market. I used it as shelves, trays and sound proof enclosure! Will definitely order more in the further if needed!

Expensive but really good faces and cuts clean. Used both on table saw and router, and as long as you use zero clearance inserts, there was no chipping. The photos are for the drawers of the built-in cabinet that I am building. The drawers are not sanded yet, which shows the good quality of this ply. Wish they had at HD store, so I don't pay shipping.

                        Mice Maple Plywood
I ordered one sheet of of the 2x4' Europly Maple panel, 3/4" thick. The panel I received had no warp or bow completely flat and free from defects except the few minor voids in some of the inner veneers. This is heavier than expected. The finished is also much better than I expected. One side is smother than the other side will use for the finish side for the shelves, Cut this into 4 pieces. I did have some chipping while cutting, but though's pieces were cut off. I would get these panel again for future projects.

Flawless veneer, square corners, beautiful edges ...
This is truly exceptional plywood and needs to be seen to be appreciated. It is graded B-2, but it is hard to imagine how it could be much better. The "blemishes" on the back were almost nonexistent, and the front veneer was perfect. The corners on the piece that I received were sharp and square, and the edges were free of voids. The only imperfection that I could find was a slight bowing of the face -- with a 48" level sitting flush on the panel lengthwise, the center was about 2 mm from being perfectly flat (see the accompanying photo). Almost imperceptible and small enough to be easily corrected, if needed. I used one-third of the panel to make a simple saw jig for my small circular saw on one side and my jigsaw on the other -- and had enough left over to replace the top of a small craft table for the kids. One warning: This is heavy stock, and smooth, about 20 lbs for a quarter panel, like this. It slipped out of my hands as I was taking it out of the box and nearly dinged one corner. Fortunately, it comes well-packaged.

                        Easy
I had this shipped and it came with a slight dent in the corner. Might better if you have these available locally to inspect otherwise be sure to check everything before you start your project. For me this wasn't a huge deal as I could cut around that imperfection. Everything stayed together nicely during my build, minimal tear out (used sharp blade and zero clearance). Layers seem uniformed and overall pretty nice. I would get these project panels again. I know it's a better value to get a full sheet, but the convenience of not having to move and break down a full 4x8 section is really nice, particularly as you get into 3/4 thick material.

                          Beautiful Veneer, but has Voids
This plywood has great flawless veneer, with a striking modern look when the Europly edge is left exposed. However, the piece I received did have a few small voids, and some spots where the interior plies were kind of a mess instead of a nice uniform layer look. The piece I received was dead flat, with no warp or bow at all. The corners were a bit smashed though, since I had 3 pieces delivered in the same box. I've ordered one at a time before that arrived with no damage. The manufacturer may want to consider adding corner reinforcements to their shipments with 2+ sheets. There isn't really a true A and B side to this plywood, as both sides are well finished and come pre-sanded to 180 grit. There was a slight color difference between the two sides, which can probably just be attributed to different logs being used for each side's veneer. The veneer is fairly thin, at about 0.02" thick. The maple veneer looks to be rotary cut since there are no visible seams, which is much nicer. The big issue I had with the plywood was that there were quite a few places where the 13 interior plies were not uniform and flat, even when the overall thickness of the plywood was flat. This "smashed ply" appearance won't look right at all if you're planning on leaving the edges unfinished, which is the whole point of a Europly style plywood. There were also quite a few small voids in the finished edges of the sheet I received. If I didn't care how the edge looked and planned on hiding it with edge veneer or face framing, I would pick a cheaper non-Europly style panel!

This arrived well packaged and undamaged. Overall, I am very impressed and am likely to buy again when I need plywood of this sort. Comparison with Baltic Birch is probably most useful: The surface veneer is thinner but higher quality. It is essentially void-free (I did a lot of cuts and routing and found at most the occasional pinhole), and by my measurements slightly stiffer than BB. My only dissapointment was that the piece wasn't perfectly flat, though only about 1.5" off over its 8' length.
