About This Product

Exquisite hardwood grains run along the length of this PureBond Maple Plywood Project Panel, featuring rotary-cut veneers from domestically grown, sustainably harvested trees that exhibit the warmth and timeless quality of natural timber. The 7-ply panel is comprised of 100% wood (no MDF or particleboard), boasting a yellow poplar core substrate layered in cross-band formation to fortify its flatness and strength. The soy-based PureBond technology is formaldehyde-free, producing a water-resistant, nontoxic decorative plywood panel that is not prone to warp like solid wood and will not emit harmful fumes like UF-constructed sheets. A cost-competitive alternative to composite panels that may degrade interior air quality over time, this hardwood plywood from Columbia Forest Products is a superb choice for DIYers and professional tradesmen looking for stellar results on their next woodworking project.

Highlights

  • 7-ply hardwood plywood panel is assembled with smooth, patch-free decorative maple veneers
  • PureBond hardwood plywood is an environmentally friendly, cost-competitive alternative to panels manufactured with urea formaldehyde (UF), which may degrade air quality over time
  • Contains 100% natural wood bonded with a food-grade soy-based adhesive that does not emit toxic air contaminants
  • Decorative top and bottom veneers, measuring approximately 1/42 in. thick, exhibit the beauty and timeless quality of natural hardwood and are suitable for painting or staining
  • Water-resistant composition has a higher moisture tolerance than UF panels and is less likely to warp than solid wood
  • Allow panel to acclimate to interior climate conditions for several days before customizing - for interior applications only
  • For best cutting results, use an 80-tooth (or greater) table saw blade intended for sheet goods or a carbide-tipped circular saw plywood blade
  • Common: 3/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft.; actual: 0.703 in. x 48 in. x 96 in.
  • Direction of the grain is the length of panel
  • Each panel weighs approximately 70 lbs.
  • Grade: C-3 - see grading guide for additional information
  • Available in additional species - birch and red oak

        Answer This Question

Hi Andrew, Maple or Birch would be a good specie for the game. There are precut tops online at Home Depot. Search item 1005824816, this may be a good option for you.

What is the temperature resistance of this plywood? will bonded layers be affected by repeated heating of up to 180 F?
            ByApr 9, 2024
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

The integrity of the wood will be fine. The only thing to be aware of is there may be some discoloration of the wood at high heat levels – well over 250 degrees.

              Answer This Question

The core substrate is Poplar. Only the decorative layer on the face and back of the panel are Maple. The ¾” panel will be 7 ply including the Maple on face and back. 5 thick layers of Poplar and 3 thin layers of Maple.

                  What Customers Say
Summarized by generative AI from text of customer reviews

Customers say that the maple plywood from Home Depot offers a decent quality for various projects, particularly for cabinetry and shelving. Many appreciate its smooth finish and ease of use, while others have noted issues with thin veneers, voids, and occasional delamination. The pricing is considered on the higher side, but the product's eco-friendly attributes and overall performance for paint-grade applications are often highlighted positively. However, customers recommend careful selection in-store to avoid defects and ensure the best quality sheets.

I’ve bought this same type of maple plywood twice now, and I’m so impressed with how smooth it is. I didn’t even need to sand it before installing the new shelves! I’d definitely buy it again in the future.

Not very happy that after I cut the plywood, the layers started separating. At $90 a sheet for C3 grade this should be great. I was in a pinch but from now on I will buy from my plywood supplier.

If you wish to use water-based paint on this type of plywood then your work will look very cheap and bad, if you use oil based it is OK, make sure you use Catalyzed Paint with Lacquer, and the finish will be smooth and amazing!

Worst wood product I have ever used
I purchased this product to fabricate a large shelving unit for a client. As soon as I sprayed the first coat of primer, random bubbles appeared in the outer veneer. The remedy, required extensive repair to all of these areas in my fabricated units. I had found and repaired 32 holes ranging from 1/2 inch in diameter up to a 7 inch long gash. These holes appeared in approximately 3 sheets of actual material used. I spent as much time repairing the defective wood as I did in fabrication.

                        Perfect Plywood for quality furniture
I use maple often to build furniture. I gave it 4 stars because sometimes I'll get a sheet cut and home and the laminate is coming apart. Definitely check over the sheet a few before you leave. Other than that, its perffect for all your DIY projects!!!

                          Absolutely junk
Normally I don't bother buying any lumber from box stores, but it was close to home and starting to rain. I did get it inside still dry, but the second I began to spray latex primer on it it started to delaminate. I had it inside my shop at least two weeks before even thinking about spraying, but this sealed the deal with me. You won't sell another junk piece of lumber to me at any price. Now I have a few thousand dollars worth of cabinetry I have to explain away to my customer. How about you calling them to explain why it's such trash and it was my fault for buying from you in the first place?

I read all of the comments on this product before I purchased it. I used it for the top or work surface for a "built in" Home Office. I wanted Maple to match the base cabinets that I installed. I had Home Depot cut each piece in two, to my dimensions. Examining the cut, I found no voids in either of the four pieces. I made other cuts for final fit and small patches and again I did not find any voids of any concern. The pieces I purchased definitely had one "finished" side that was smoother than the other. The top veneer appears to be very thin, so use care.
