this is exactly how we mounted ours. our ceiling is a little uneven, so there is a small gap on one side, but it doesn't effect the performance of the fixture.

it can be done both ways. On the fixture there is a slider that will allow you to pick one of three color temperatures or opt for the switch control. if you set the slider to one color temperature there is no adjustment from the switch

Joe, I just checked my lights that I have and no they do not move after they are turned and locked into place. Make sure the cover clicks into place so it will lock. The cover and the ring should not move when properly installed.

Depends on how big your carport is, but it has different settings to dim

before you take it back i would check the wiring going to the fixture and make sure your switch is compatible with the fixture. if both are in good working order i would take it back to the store.

Yes these can be wall mounted. Follow same instructions as if mounting to a ceiling.

There is a switch on outside rim of the light. You can set the switch to 1 of the 3 light settings or all the way to the right to 'switch'. If on switch and you toggle on and off in less than 4 seconds, it cycles to the next light color. Perhaps that is your issue. If not, sounds like it may be defective.

if you have this on a dimmer switch, it could be the dimmer itself. If it is on a switch it may be some warning up. My same light is on a dimmer and it does flicker for a few seconds and then stops maybe something with the voltage.
