How do I determine if I have joists, so that I can install this?

How do I determine if I have joists, so that I can install this?
Asked by: Kamust
Joists are the lumber--usually 2x6's or 8's or 10's etc.--that are in your ceiling to which the drywall is attached. In any home your ceiling has them. They are typically spaced 16 or 24" apart (on center). I suggest you buy or borrow a "stud finder" so you can find the joists as part of your decision to place the fan.

does this product include #10 machine screws for ceiling fan mounting ?
Asked by: rich
Yes is comes with screws but depending on how thick your ceiling is, you may have to get some longer ones. I think this in designed with 1/2" drywall ceilings in mind. Alternatively, one could use spacers between the electrical box and the support bar to bring it down flush with the ceiling instead of using longer screws.
