The Commercial Electric 5/6in. Color temperature select LED downlight is an easy way to upgrade your existing can lights to the sleek look of recessed lighting and LED energy efficient technology. These LED downlights are compatible with most dimmer switches and are equipped with a unique color temperature (CCT) changing technology. Now you can select your color temperature depending on your needs or preferences with the flip of a switch located on the back of the downlight. Test different color temperatures before installation and never be dissatisfied with CCT again. Color temperature of these LED downlights ranges from Warm White (2700K) to Daylight (5000K), with three options in between: Soft White (3000K), Neutral White (3500K) and Bright White (4000K). Using only 9-Watts of energy but produce brightness comparable to a 65-watt incandescent bulb, these LED downlight bulbs are estimated to cost only $1.36 per year to operate. Additionally, these LED downlights are rated to last for 50,000 hours or approximately 34 years. That is 50 times longer than a traditional incandescent BR30 lightbulb, which these downlights are used most commonly to replace. Compatible with most 5 and 6in. recessed housings and equipped with a medium (E26) socket base adapter for easy installation.

Hi Garfield, because this is a "Retrofit" trim, you do not need to cut a new hole in your ceiling at all—it is designed to slide directly inside an existing 5-inch or 6-inch recessed ceiling can.We understand the confusion around recessed lighting installation! If you already have standard 5-inch or 6-inch metal housing cans installed in your ceiling, these LED trims include adjustable torsion springs on the sides that compress to fit snugly right inside those existing openings. However, if you are doing a brand-new remodel and need to buy the metal housing cans to install first, here are the standard cutout hole sizes required for the ceiling drywall:For a 5-inch recessed can: You will typically cut a hole roughly 5.5 inches in diameter. For a 6-inch recessed can: You will typically cut a hole roughly 6.5 inches in diameter.(Note: Always double-check the exact cutout template included in the box of the specific brand of rough-in housing can you purchase before making your cuts). If you are actually looking for "canless" LED lights that clip directly into bare drywall without a metal housing, please let us know! Otherwise, if you have any questions about how to adjust the spring clips to fit your current ceiling cans, please feel free to reach out to us at customerservice@leedarson.com.
Yes, you can absolutely use these retrofit trims with your spring-clip cans, as they are specifically engineered to support that exact type of fixture. Your existing ceiling housing relies on C-shaped tension clips (often called friction tabs or spring-clip receivers) mounted on the inside walls of the metal can. This 4-pack of LED trims comes right out of the box equipped with adjustable torsion springs (the V-shaped wire wings) that are designed to compress and slide directly up into those very slots. How to Install Them in Your Cans: Locate the brackets: Look inside your ceiling can to spot the two metal loops or tabs on opposite sides. Squeeze the wires: Pinch the V-shaped wire springs on the sides of the new LED trim together. Hook and push: Guide the pinched wire ends directly into the C-clips inside the can, let go so they spread wide inside the hook, and gently push the light trim upward until it sits flush against your drywall. Alternative Option (If your tabs are missing):If you get up on a ladder and notice your older cans are completely smooth on the inside and missing those internal hook brackets entirely, the torsion springs won't have anything to grab onto. If that is the case, you do not need to buy a different light model! You can simply buy a pack of Recessed Can Friction Clips / Retrofit Bands at your local Home Depot. These budget-friendly metal bands snap right onto the lip of your smooth cans to create instant mounting slots for these exact LED trims.
