I like it!
Commercial Electric 5 in. Oil Rubbed Bronze Traditional Canopy Kit for Ceiling Light. So I thought I might need this for my new ceiling lights, but they all came with fixures. Now looking at it, decided we will put this on the over hang on our front porch and hang a flower pot from it. It will hold up to 50 pnds. It has a ring to attach and also the cross bar. Perfect! It's a nice dark bronze so weathering should be ok. It's only 5in round so we will get a couple more so our plants have friends
Canopy kit for ceiling light fixture solved my problem with an old ugly light box this canopy cover kit covered it up and now I am able to get something mice to hang on it. Rated for 50 pounds it will hold about anything I put up there. Comes with all the hardware to mount it in the box. In the oil rubbed bronze it will go with almost all ceiling colors or types. It is a simple fix.
There’s not really much I can say about one of these items but I have to say personally that I got it because I like the design and it matches my house since I live in a older house goes perfectly with it nicely made it comes with the kit to install it it also has a new hook so you can hang whatever fixture you’re gonna hang to it you can use it for a light or you can just use it to hang anything else you want to put up it’s not that expensive and Home Depot has a whole bunch of different types and designs for you to choose from. And I have to honestly say that commercial electric makes really good products ,I’ve been using them for so many years . everything from these traditional canopy kits to like covers and outlet covers just so many different things. so I know that they’re pretty reliable
More than a year ago, I picked up four, reasonably priced outside led wall mount lights to mount across the front of my house. I also wanted a hanging light that would match the other four to hang from the center of the portico that covered the entrance walkway to my front door.
After a year of searching for a matching, hanging lamp, and finding nothing suitable, I came up with the brilliant idea of purchasing an additional copy of the ones I already had and modifying it into a hanging lamp. That proved to be challenging enough in itself. But, with some disassembly, planning, drilling and a bit of praying, I managed to create a hanging lamp version of the wall lamps I already had.
I needed a canopy to hang it from and a chain to hang it with. I found both at HD and brought them home to finish the project. That canopy (not the one being reviewed) was made of very thin metal and I didn’t want to use it to hang the lamp from. I didn’t trust it to hold even the light weight of the hanging lamp. (see picture for comparison).
Then by happenstance, I found this 5”, traditional canopy kit from Commercial Electric that was of heavier construction and of the exact style I wanted. So, I procured it and used it to hang the lamp.
The package included a crossbar, a collar loop and all the necessary nuts and washers to put the whole thing together. The only additional parts I had to supply were the chain and a safety/ground wire which were right on the shelf at my local Home Depot.
The Commercial Electric unit is nice looking and heavy duty enough for this small lamp to hang from. I did end up bending the provided crossbar and adapting to for the hanger loop to thread into on a 3" round, pancake box. I wanted a more secure mounting than the canopy cover alone and I wanted that 3" box to remain.
The Commercial Electric canopy has a more durable, oil rubbed bronze finish than others I have looked at. Most of which only came in black! The crossbar that’s included is threaded and can be used to hang a heavier lamp with the appropriate threaded tube.
A small caution though. The connecting, decorative nuts for the canopy are very small and somewhat difficult to manipulate onto the threads of the attaching bolts. So of course, I managed to drop one into parts unknown in my landscaping as I was finalizing the lamp mount. But I did find suitable, round ball replacement cap nuts in 8-32 at my local HD.
Overall, I’m quite pleased with the Commercial Electric, traditional canopy kit.
