Have not done this but have a two part comment. First , if the brackets are securely drilled into studs and are firm on the wall, not hung with anchors in drywall, it will most likely easily hold a 65" tv as long as the weight does not exceed the max, which you said it did not. Secondly, and more importantly, tv's have screw ports on the back which are there to accommodate bolts from the bracket. If the screw ports are spaced too wide on the tv so they don't line up or are beyond the space covered by the existing bracket , you cannot use your old setup. In that case just find longer brackets and if the old ones were indeed embedded into the studs, just replace the old shorter ones with new longer brackets.

2 screws at the end of the wall mounted bar can be removed and bar attached to tv slides off right or left.
