Q:Do you have to have dimmer switch?? How do you access what lumens you want to use?
    by|Sep 5, 2022
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  This fixture will operate on a regular on/off wall switch. It does not have to be installed on a dimming circuit. You can change to color temperature of the fixture by using the CCT switch located on the driver on the back of the panel. To adjust the lumen output, you would need to install a dimmer.

Q:will this fixture replace a standard four foot flourescent tube light fixture?
      by|Feb 25, 2022
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  This fixture delivers over 4000 lumens through the lens. It will provide more light than an exposed 2-tube 4 ft fluorescent strip light. This will also be more than enough to replace a 3 or 4 tube 4 ft fluorescent light fixture that has a lens on it.

This is a very bright, energy efficient ceiling light! It's perfect for garages and laundry rooms, just be ready for a major difference if you are replacing old florescent fixtures. This light will be much much brighter! The fixture is lightweight, but unfortunately it requires an electrical box due to the design with integrated LEDs. Pretty much all LED fixtures work this way now, so the major difference is that you can't do the wiring inside the fixture itself like you could with the old florescent fixtures. This fixture doesn't even have a 2" knockout to allow the electrical wiring to go inside and that makes sense since the wiring would block some of the LEDs and affect the light that is emitted. Unfortunately, I have existing fixtures that were just mounted through the ceiling with drywall anchors and the electrical wiring was done inside the old fixtures, so there's no electrical box to work with. Even though the weight of this new fixture is comparable to the existing fixtures (no heavy ballast, just a lightweight AC/DC LED driver), I can't take the risk of having the ceiling drywall break apart during installation. The blue old-work fan box cannot hold the entire weight of the fixture during installation, so the two drywall anchors on the side must be used. Better yet, if you can line up two ceiling joists, you can use the two included wood screws and metal washers instead of the drywall anchors. In order to install this new fixture correctly, you really need an electrical box mounted directly to a ceiling joist. This is the best and safest way to install these fixtures. If you already have an electrical box secured to a ceiling joist, this installation will be extremely easy and only one person would be needed. If you don't have an electrical box, and you can't install one yourself, you'll need two people. My existing fixtures happen to be directly above attic space that has plywood blocking access to the ceiling from above, so it's a very challenging installation without an existing electrical box. On the plus side, I really like how easy it is to remove the plastic holders on each side of the new fixture. You can do it all by hand, this is so much better and easier than the fixture it replaced. There are small tabs on the covers so you can insert a small thin screwdriver to pry the cover off, but you don't even need a tool, you can get the side covers off by hand. I have no idea if the LED driver is replaceable long term if the light fails, but it looks like it would be simple enough with some soldering. We all know that LEDs like this are expected to last a very long time. It's also dimmable! So if the light is too bright, say for the laundry room, you can install a dimmer switch and make things work. Really love the exterior switch that allows the color temperature to be changed. This is especially helpful if you forget to set it and then need to change it. Once you set it to your preferences, you shouldn't ever really need to set it or change it again, but it's there and very easy to do from the outside of the fixture, even after installation! Overall, this is an excellent fixture, the base is metal and the covers are all hard plastic, but the plastic side covers have an integrated metal design on them that is glued to the plastic covers. If those metal parts are loose or break off, you can easily re-glue them, I did this myself since mine were loose and I had some silicone glue available. The pictures show the mesha design since I don't have the victoria, but they work the exact same way, you just glue the metal design to the plastic cover if needed. This fixture assembles so easy with the plastic side covers because they can be easily removed and re-installed by hand! No more broken light shields anymore! I also really like not having flickering florescent tubes anymore, it's great!

Big improvement for our utility room! Plus, the decorative end-caps make for a versatile and attractive addition even in the most obvious locations. Although hard-wired, it’s a simple, one-person installation. A temporary chain supports the fixture to keep hands free for wiring. Drywall anchors are built-in, and metal tabs organize the wiring to prevent shadows being cast on the diffuser. Plus, it’s a better LED design! Variable settings make it a snap to coordinate the color with adjacent ceiling lights. Once selected, removing the switch allows the cover to fit more easily (you can always manipulate with a screwdriver later).

I installed the Victoria ceiling light in my kitchen and it looks great. Inside are several rows of LEDs mounted on a non-adhesive tape. There's an internal switch that selects soft white, bright white or daylight (3000K/4000K/5000K.) We set ours to 5000K and it provides much more light than the fluorescent light it replaced. The light's low weight and included chain with hooks simplifies installation. The satin nickel and slate gray accent pieces coordinate with our stainless steel oven and have an attractive design. It comes with an outstanding 5-year warranty and a rated life of 50,000-hours of continuous use! If you're not using a dimmer switch be prepared to disassemble the light to switch it's brightness.

This Commercial Electric Victoria 4 foot light looks good as it illuminates. It is perfect for any room. The lamp has a low profile, (3.125"). and is not heavy like traditional ceiling light fixtures which makes installing it by one person easy. The fixture is made with metal and has a glossy finish applied, the lens is plastic and held in by the fixture body and the decorative end covers which give it it's stylish look. I like that it is damp rated, ( can be mounted in the bathroom, laundry or kitchen). The lamp has three light settings, soft white, bright white or daylight (3000K/4000K/5000K). It also can be dimmed using the appropriate dimmer. Watt equivalence 96.

Disappointed. Commercial Electric makes great products, but someone dropped the ball on this one. The light base itself is fine. It's easy to install with multiple mounting options, easy to wire and the lights are bright and adjustable. The problem with this light is the entire cover is just a bad design and poorly constructed. First off, one of the decorative grids came detached from the outer piece in the package and the other side was loose. Both needed to be fixed with glue. Secondly, the end caps don't stay on tightly and kept falling off during install. Finally, it doesn't feel like the shade and the end pieces fit together well...it just feels and looks kind of cheap. There's too many pieces that need to fit together just right instead of having just a one piece cover that either hinges or detaches easily. Granted, you probably won't need to open it up after you install it, but it's still a poor design in my opinion. The decorative end pieces don't really add to the appearance anyway, so you might be better off buying one without. I'm using in a utility room, so looks aren't that important for me, but may be for you. PS: Be careful where you set it down when installing. The screws that protrude from the frame on the back are a bit sharp and will scratch furniture or can tear fabric if you aren't careful.

I got this the other day and was amazed on how light weight it is. It is very easy to handle and sturdy enough to give you confidence that is a quality unit. On the description it is clear that it is a flush mount unit, not one that can be hung. I currently don't have a ceiling in my garage that I plan to use it. I plan to add a thin mounting board to attach it to. It's a straightforward installation, but you need to set your color temp selection prior to install. I don't have a optional light switch that is dimmable, since this will be on the same circuit as my other lights. Very bright unit.

I gave this product 4 stars, which says it is good, but I want to qualify that rating. The product is very functional as far as providing illumination to a large area. That’s thanks to 4 rows of LEDs in pairs and those pairs spaced less than 2 inches apart. The acrylic cover does a good job of diffusing the light as well. Installation is simple and the short length of chain that is provided holds the fixture while you complete the wiring. I put it with my wiring tools for use with other fixtures in the future. There is some effort required to push the last wire nut and wires for the ground into the ceiling electrical box with this process, but it certainly is not major. The driver is located at one end of the fixture and spans its width so it might be robust enough to last as long as the LEDs. Most LED fixture failures are a result of a driver going bad and not the LEDs themselves. The price seems reasonable for lighting components and light that you get. Efficiency of the LEDs is on par with others or above average. One fixture provides plenty of general lighting in one garage bay even with the ceiling being 11-1/2 ft. high. Initial selection of color temperature with the switch at the outer edge of the fixture at one end is simple. The issues I have are as follows. The instructions have a picture of the diffuser that makes it appear that the diffuser is installed OVER rather than inside the sheet metal. If that is correct, you must remove the end cap and diffuser to adjust color temperature. I don’t think that is what the designer had in mind since instructions mention removing part of the switch so it won’t be visible. This means that the diffuser is only supported by the end caps and not along the full length. Not a big deal but could be an issue at some point in the future. I’m really not a fan of the end cap curved design and the punched sheet metal insert is just “okay” in my mind. Since these (two) fixtures are in my garage I am not really that concerned with the apdearance. The same would be true in an unfinished basement. This may just be a personal opinion. I also had mixed success with the screw-in drywall anchors. One went in fine but the other one ended up stripping out drywall. I think that happened when the anchor broke loose from its retainer ring. It can be a bit tricky determining how much force you are putting behind the screwdriver working overhead to break away the anchors from the temporary retainer, but it is an interesting concept. I simply drilled a hole through the sheet metal after finding a stud being careful not to be in an area where there is wiring. While the instructions seem to imply that anchor points other than at the electrical box might be optional, I think you will always have unacceptable sag in the ends of the fixture without 3 anchor points. I can’t comment on dimming since there isn’t a dimmer for my garage lights. The reason for changing fixtures was to get as much light as possible when I am working out there. The overall quality deserves a “good” by comparison to other fixtures I have installed but it will take more work on the visual design to earn an excellent in my opinion. I apologize for the poor-quality photos. I am past due for a new smartphone.

This flush mount integrated LED ceiling light by Commercial Electric is a good product with the following features. This is 48x10 in. ceiling mount LED light that direct wires to a ceiling electrical box. It has as white frosted cover but comes with dark bronze accent coverings on each end that give it a more decorative look. This unit puts out 4000 Lumens and is Dimmable. The installation involves not only wiring the unit but also securing it to the hard surface ceiling with screws or toggle bolts. This is a good replacement for an existing Florescent Fixture or in new installs for general lighting.
