    Answer This Question

A:  Greetings, No, due to the weave of this fabric, cutting it will not lead to fraying as long as the cut is straight. Thanks for your query! 1-800-560-4667 | https://www.coolaroousa.com/questions

    by|Aug 16, 2022

A:  You will need to turn the cut edge under to make a "hem" before you attach to your structure. Was a raw edge but did not fray easily.

      by|Jul 5, 2022

A:  It does fray and stretch. How bad depends on how you are stretching the fabric. I edge my fabric before I stretch it. I cut my fabric two inches longer than I need. I fold over one inch and pin flat. Then I fold one inch again and pin flat. This gives me three layers of material. I sew three seams in the trifold fabric. Outside edge, middle and inside edge. This gives a good base for gromets, staples or any fastener. I use this for outdoor curtains also.

Shade cloth is meant to rest on an existing structure
"Shade cloth is meant to rest on an existing structure." Wish I'd seen that -before- I ordered/cut/installed the 12'x50' roll on with the review......... This year I thought I'd try one of these fancy coolaroo breathable fabrics since my big Maple tree that shaded the south side died and using those cheap green/brown tarps was so dark and depressing. Don't believe the "Breathable material" and "allows for warm air to escape" "reducing temperatures by up to 32 degree." That only works IF you are going to place this HIGH above your head, open on all sides. In my particular configuration temperatures rose significantly. So Hang em high! :o) and you'll be good. It blocks almost all the sun IF you are wanting to hanging this off the side of your house during the summer only 8' to 10' up then 12' over to the fence which is 6' tall FORGET IT. This will not work because it will trap the heat regardless if 2 sides are wide open to the breeze. It is not breathable enough for this situation. And it is too heavy. And the wind catches it just like a tarp. I've posted 2 closeups of fabric I had to take it down cuz it felt like walking into a 350 degrees oven. My Foxgloves keeled over I replaced it with a reflective Aluminet type fabric called SilviShade 80% Ex. Like right now 4pm it is 86 degrees in the shade on the north side, 90 in the shade on the west side, 80 degrees in the shade on the east side, 105 degrees in the sun and ---94 degrees! on the south side in the shade of the SilviShade 80% (only 11 degrees lower, i was hoping for more). When I had the 90% Coolaroo up tho it would get 110 and above! I'll bet ya if you laid this 90% Coolaroo on the ground it'd kill everything underneath it. :o) So I'm currently at a loss. Money wise and cool wise. I might tho give the Coolaroo 70% 'Privacy Screening' a try next year as a privacy and cat barrier atop my fence . IF I can either get a sample of it or see it in person somewheres, HD doesn't carry it. HD only sells this 90% and their rollup shades which are 90% to 95%. What fooled me was the pictures on the Coolaroo website where you can see right through it and it looks to be very light weight. Those pictures must actually be of the 70% privacy fabric. Note: The closeup pictures of the 70% and 90% are identical. Coolaroo needs to post good closeup pictures of the knitting of all the various degrees of fabrics it offers and in all their colors. So you can better choose a percentage. OR better yet offer SAMPLES. Coolaroo btw has 3 categories of Shade Fabric. 'Garden Cover' 30% to 50% UV block, 'Privacy Screening' 70% UV Block and this 'People Cover' 90% UV Block. They also make a Light-Duty Screening (70%) Shade Cloth (only 2 yr. warranty) but I can't find it on Coolaroo's American website or HDs.

This fabric does a great job at cutting UV dramatically. The result was an immediate temperature drop of about 15 degrees or more during times of intense sunshine. I live in an area of high winds too, so I framed it in areas of 4 ft. x 4 ft. and so far, the fabric has withstood some very heavy winds. For the price, this is a much better permanent shade solution than wooden trellis and a lot cheaper. I also did an experiment and tried to set a piece on fire. It would not burn, which made me feel better about having so much of it near my house. This is a great shade solution!

We had shade fabric for the last 14 years that came in 6 ft widths and after sewing it together we had two seams, which came apart this winter. Looking for a wider width, we found the 12 X 50 foot Cooleroo Wheat 90 % at Home Depot and ordered it. So now we only have one seam, which we also double sewed this time. This fabric is denser than the previous 60% we had for 14 years and we expect it to last much longer. It looks great and the amount of sunlight it cuts down is greater, so we are very happy with the results so far.

Bought this to make curtains for a 1/2 circle patio area (24' x 12') after buying custom shades of the same fabric for another patio area. Was able to cut, sew seams & hems, insert grommets into double-thick fabric with no problem. Fashioned a curved rod out of metal conduit, used clear plastic shower curtain rings and voila - Badly need sun protection that you can still see thru & that let's the air through. Made 2 panels 11.5 x 10 and 1 panel 11.5 x 7. While I can pull the panels opened & closed, due to the height, I will be adding some sort of pull rod and also will be adding tie downs at the bottom. Super pleased, super happy with the results!

Arrived in a nice protective sleeve. Bought it to cover a 14' x 25' Pergola. Laid it out in the back yard and cut the desired length. Sewed the extra 2 feet and added a seam all around for added strength. Install was tricky because of the size but came out better than expected. Provided a lot of shade and you felt the difference instantly!

Very easy to work with and customize.
This was a great product to use for sun protection. This is not intended to be used for rain blocking. It is great for the strong Colorado sun. It helped turn our deck into a functional patio even on 100 degree days. The sunshade does a great job.

              This stuff is great.
This is really good stuff. We had some that had to be removed while we were doing some construction. This is our second roll and we expect it will perform just as well as the first one did.
